What is Value Room at AKV????

Your guess is as good as anyone elses, but I suspect it has to do with location and room size. I couldn't get an answer about that from my guide yesterday, so we'll just have to wait until the information is published on the website.

I am a little confused:confused: . What is the value room at AKV? Is it a smaller type of room?

The answer is, right now, nobody is exactly sure.

But here's what we know: The 5th (and maybe 6th?) floor of AKL are made up of standard and deluxe sized rooms. Most (if not all) of the standard sized rooms are overlooking a parking lot or lawn, not the savannah or pool.

The supposition (and I think it's a good one) is that the "value" category will be those converted rooms....all likely studios.

Based on the point chart, there will also be some value 1BRs and 2BRs. Based on the room sizes I posted on another thread, these will be smaller studios, 1BRs (and presumably 2BRs). Size-wise, they are approximately 1x, 2x (and presumably 3x) the size of a standard-size AKL room. These smaller rooms will not have the sleeper chair, so the value 1BRs will sleep 4 and the value 2BRs will sleep 8.

So if you don't mind facing the main entrance and parking lot of AKL, they are a good deal!

My thoughts are similar, that they are the standard size rooms on the 5th floor. The Ostrich and Giraffe trials that flank the parking lot have standard size rooms. However on the other side of the Ostrich trail is the sunset savannah and the other side of the giraffe is the pool. I don't know if all of these views will be value views or not (my guess is yes) but they started out with the smaller hotel rooms.

The value rooms are a collection of odd shaped and/or smaller rooms that they felt would be an issue. I am told that while the other (non value) 1 & 2 BR will sleep 5/9 with an extra pull out futon type chair, the value's will not. They are scattered all over the resort. I am assuming they are only in the current lodge and not in the new building but am not certain on that one. The view could be any type including savannah view but no way to know until you get to the room.

I was wondering if the value rooms were gonna be some of those in the AKL that are facing the sidewalk leading to the bus stop? I remember passing by them and thinking how absolutely awful they must be! Anyone know what I'm referring to?

I think people have the concept of a value room all wrong. ;) ;) ;) My sources tell me that value rooms will be of one of two types: 1) those located ON the savannah with no running water or flush toilets, as well as having walls and roofs made of (high Disney quality) canvas or PVC; 2) those rooms that not only come without outside maid service, but also with the stipulation that for each three nights stayed the occupants must work a three hour shift cleaning up after the animals. ;) ;) Disney wanted this to be the first truly interactive DVC resort and felt there might be strong appeal for this, especially among bargain hunters. This was one of the reasons that they started asking for names and addresses of all parties on reservations--to target bargain-hunting renters who might find the points savings on value rooms particularly appealing. ;) ;)

We once got upgraded to a room at AKL when POR had no vacancy--it was on the 5th floor, and it overlooked a little grass hut on the roof thing--towards the front of the building. It was in the main lodge part of the bldg-- so we came out of the room to that gorgeous lodge view. We had paid 79 per night for POR, so needless to say, we were thrilled to be there. Anyway I bet our room would qualify as a value room in the new point system. For 8 points, I would stay there again in a heartbeat!:woohoo:

There are several 5th-floor rooms along that walkway so I would imagine those would become value villas.

You know, I've heard something like this too. Except what I heard was that the "little grass hut" that someone else mentioned here was actually the outhouse for the value rooms. Also, the "washer/dryer" in the 1 and 2 bedrooms was an old fashioned washboard and a hand held fan to dry off the clothes. Of course, you have to walk to a lake on the savannah to haul your water for the laundry.

Do we know if the value rooms will be two queen beds, or 1 queen w/sleeper sofa?

since the rooms are smaller - guessing 1 queen and double sleeper sofa - of course it might be smaller since they now have that furniture. a chair that converts to a twin bed.

I am a little confused - I though it was only the sunset savannah - that is all - so does it have all the pieces beginning discussed here?

so some of the value rooms could be savannah rooms - darn it I want lousey views so these units won't be in demand.

I too am a point horder and am hoping to book those value accomodations and maybe even luck up on a view (not counting on it and I will gladly mosey on over to the savanna a check out the animals). I am almost certain that there are a whole bunch of point cheapskates out there just waiting to book those oddly shaped, small, viewless rooms.:goodvibes I'll just be happy be in that atmosphere. Since 78% of the rooms are savanna view and about 20% are value (which mostly have views that are not savanna), I'd also think odds are pretty good that if you book a standard room you may wind up with a savanna view after all so we will probably do that when Kidana is up and ready.

The way I interpreted it was standard view and savannah view were mutually exclusive. Obviously the direct booking savannah view rooms will be less than the 78% with the remainder being made up of concierge and value units. It will be interesting to see exactly how these rooms break down in terms of total numbers and the percentage of different view types for the value rooms esp.

Perhaps. By the percentages we already know, that would mean that there would be even fewer standard rooms than value rooms. Savanna View would then be very easy to book. Hmmmm...:scratchin Well yes, if 78% of the rooms have a savanna view then perhaps the standard view rooms will be a very small percentage. My brain hurts:headache: I think I'll wait for the official breakdown.

Interesting. I would guess most people would go ahead and pay the 11 point per night for the studio Savannah room than the 8 or 9 point value and standard. Really, it is not that much of a point savings and you're getting a Savannah view room. Even at 11 a night it is still one point less that BCV or VWL. I'm going to guess the value and standard rooms will be the last to go???
