What is up with coupons lately?!?!?

As I was clipping my coupons over the weekend, I noticed quite a few that were $1 off 4 or even $1 off 5 and many that were $1 off 2.

The $1 off two is great when you're getting buy one/get one free, but at regular prices, it only means 50 cents off each item (my store doesn't double $1 coupons).

I just don't get these new $1 off 4 or $1 off 5 ones..... It really doesn't make the coupon worth it if it's a higher priced item (like Progresso soup which is about $1.65/can)

Of course, saving any money is great and there were plenty of *great* coupons in the paper and I just did a small shopping and saved a tidy sum --- and will save a bunch later in the week when I do my "big" shopping. I just don't like the manufacturer making me buy 4 of their item just to get $1 off.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this trend?

Yup. There are some items I'd like to try, but I'm not going to buy 4 or 5 if I'm not sure if I'll like it. There was a coupon for the new Healthy Choice steamer things, and it was $1 off 5. Not gonna happen!

Or how about the ones that are "get one free when you buy 4". Okayeeee.... not happening!!! The only way I would do that is if it's something I absolutely always buy and will definitely use.

Yea, today I noticed a coupon for $1 off 3 jars of Peter Pan peanut butter. If I need that much p.b. I will buy in bulk at BJ's!

Really? I just got a few papers today. Our local store is doing super doubles (double on all up to $1.99) and I noticed some GREAT deals with the $1 and $1.50 off.

I went back later to use some of them and got $100 retail for $10.32. Well worth buying a few papers.

the store we normally shop at had a huge 10 for $10 sale this week (so each was $1.00). Not a single coupon to be found in paper or online for ANY of the items. A year or more ago, I would have had a zillion coupons for things on this sale and got most of the items for about $0.30.

I wish my store would do 'super doubles'.... they only double up to 99 cents. They never have a special where they double $1 and they don't take competitor coupons. The only reason I say with this store is because their prices are much better than the other local supermarket.

Lovin' the fact that you got $100 for $10!!!! AWESOME job!!! :cheer2:

Wow, that would be awesome!!

I mostly shop at Krogers and they only double up to .50c

There is a local grocery store that I know will double .55c but I'm not sure how high they go exactly. I may need to call them... but I'm pretty sure they won't double anywhere near as high as .99 or 1.99! that is amazing.

I almost always find it's cheaper to shop the store brands on sale than it is to shop the name brands with coupons. But I'm a terrible couponer -- never organized enough, half the time they expire before I get a chance to use them, and they always seem to be for things I don't need and don't have room to store -- so YMMV.

I've noticed that a lot too lately. $1 off 5? Are you kidding me? I know that more people are using coupons but it can't be that many people. Although I have noticed some better toilet paper coupons and you can never have too much toilet paper.

They just started rotating the Super Doubles into their regular triples times. It is typically either every 2 or 3 months and lasts a week, so lots of time to stock up. We can only use 20 coupons per day and only 3 like kinds.....I like the rules though because it means someone can't come in with 30 coupons of one thing and wipe out the store and leave none for others.

I did several really good trips over the past 5 days.....and we have 2 more days of the sale to go and I might even have 40 more coupons IF the stores aren't out of everything by then.

The thing I really need to do is organize though. I am hopeless with organizing.

I do notice that coupons expire faster than they used to.

We must live in the same general area. I just went shopping today and saved a bundle! The super doubles are better than the way they do the triples! It's a good thing, too. That store is normally expensive.

My Kroger doubles up to $0.99!

You're lucky. here in the chicago area we don't have any stores that will double coupons.

Our local Safeway doubles up to .99$ which is amazing because the Safeway's on the west coast (Ca and Wa that I use to shop) don't double coupons period. I'm really going to miss this come summer when we move back...But using coupons and in store sales I saved $58 today so I was pretty happy. Although I did receive a store printed coupon that was "save $1.50 when you buy 10 lean cuisine." Are you kidding me? I have to buy 10 to get $1.50 off!?! I miss the save $1.50 off of 2 or 3.

they are really good...if that matters any! ;)

I've noticed the same things. Will not usually buy that many of anything unless I have a coupon for each individual items. unless I can combine my meijer mealbox coupons with the manufacturers coupons.

The store printed ones are the worst culprits for me of the multiple item coupon. It happens most when I buy Lean Cuisine or Lean Pockets. I think it knows how many I buy and doubles it. Like if I buy 1 frozen meal, the coupon will print for $1 off 3. But if I buy 5 frozen meals, it prints one of those ridiculous ones, like $1 off 6.

We only have one store here that doubles coupons, and that's only on Wednesdays and has ridiculous rules: it will only double your first 5 coupons, up to a value of $1 each, with a $25+ purchase.

I've mentioned on the boards several times that I am an active member at weusecoupons.com and we really really REALLY help each other out to maximize the coupons that are out there by matching with store deals, store coupons, sales, and manufacturers coupons but I have to say you are absolutely right and I have no doubt it is due to the uptick in coupon usage with this recession. The manufacturers were seeing way more usage and it was cutting into profits.
