What is there to look forward to?

With such a dismal performance in academia compared to other nations I don't have qualms with celebrating educational milestones even if it seems so silly at such a preliminary level.

Yes, there's nothing wrong with a little silliness in life. We're here at DIS mostly adults for goodness sakes. We're the epitome of silliness. lol ::MickeyMo

I agree in theory.... but the problem I see is that (at least in our area) that the academia has been so watered down so everyone can achieve that the achievement in itself does not mean anything anymore. :sad2:

My twins will graduate from preschool on the 15th of June. and it is a very big deal to them.
I was going to bow out and not spend the Money but, opted to just go with the flow.

They do have fabric cap and gowns that are used from year to year. and we use the elementary school at night. They will march in to the pomp and circumstance music. get a little preschool diploma, then a picture under a balloon arch and we are done. I seem to remember it taking about an hour?

Thier Grampy and Nana will be there and probably Aunts and Uncles that live in the area as well. There will be no gifts from family members. I however did let them each make a Build a bear animal for thier gift from us.

We will also (after graduation) have a Make your own Sundae party here at the house.

I loved my ds in his pre-k cap (no gown). We have pictures of him with a couple of class mates that will graduate from the same high school. We will blow up those pictures of them together to put up during high-school graduation.

It is 12 years away but going to be SO cute!

Kdg. teacher here.

Does anyone honestly think a Kdg. or Pre-K grad. eclipses a high school or college graduation!?

These little ones will barely be able to recall their Kdg. graduation when it comes to high school graduation. As it is, high school graduation is a billion years away when you're 5 yrs. old!!!!!

Anyway, I can tell you that it would save me a whole lot of time, energy, blood, sweat, tears and money if we didn't have Kdg. grad. at my school! No skin off my back ... would be nice to not have to deal w/ making caps, filling out diplomas, etc.

I'm 33 and I STILL remember my Kindergarten graduation!! I was the tallest kid in class and I drug my partner down the walkway. :rotfl: Still remember the dress I wore, the pictures they did of us in our caps and gowns, and the little teeny tiny cakes we ate - pink for the girls and blue for the boys. :teeth:

I'm sad because my kids school doesn't have Kindergarten graduation. :( I really missed that last year.

I really didn't mean to start such a fuss. IMHO, it just seemed a bit much to see parents rent caps and gowns for little ones. If it makes you happy, so be it. I've never said, nor do I feel, that things having to do with our children are silly. Good grief. I talk abou DD all the time. I just felt that some things should be special and saved for particular times in a persons life. Others don't feel the same. No problem.

Let's let this go before it gets nasty. Mods, as the OP, feel free to close this thread.
