Thinking about checking out HH in the near future. Are there things to keep kids busy and interested?? How far is Disney from HH?? Thanks.

HH is about a 5 hour drive from WDW- all interstate.

The resort itself has a great recreational staff with varied programming for kids of ages (including adult kids). There are lots of nature programs, shelling, trips to nearby Pinckney Wildlife Reuge, crabbing, mystery programs, fish painting (Gyotaku), canoeing, kayaking, biking, Dolphin Cruises, cooking with Matilda, wine tasting and more- all scheduled right at the resort itself.

HH also has a wide variety of other recreational services available (the resort can help assist with these also). Dining (over 300 restaurants to choose from), shopping (lots of boutiques and outlets), sailing, fishing, parasailing, tennis, golf, historical tours, nearby Savannah and lots more.

Thanks for getting me thinking about the great activities, I need to call MS again!

Enjoy!

disney is 5 1/2 hours from hilton head. The beach is great for bike riding. My favorite thing about hh is how relaxing it is. Make sure to give it a try!!You'll be glad you did. we will be visiting hh for our 4th time this coming summer. Last easter we were there and the weather was perfect, not to hot. where in ny are you from?

Just curious - did you drive from NY to HH? We are on Long Island and I was curious as to whether you drove and if so, how long it took from, say, from the time you entered New Jersey to the resort? We fly to FL when we go to WDW, but I was thinking maybe we could try driving to HH.

Thanks in advance, Kathy

we are from near buffalo. we don't go thru n.j. we actually go thru erie, pa and pittsburgh, pa. the total drive time is about 15 1/2 with three 20 minute stops.

Disneymon - thanks for the reply! My BIL lies in East Aurora, NY (near Buffalo). We flew there from LaGuardia and it was the fastest plane flight I have ever been on. There was not enough time to finish the beverage service to the passengers on that flight (was glad I brought water for my DD!).

My husband hates to drive (that's why we flew to Buffalo) but maybe I'll try the drive to HH while he sleeps!

Thanks again! Kathy

DisneyMon_ Thanks for the reply. I also live on Long Island. It definetly sounds like a resort we have to check out.

Thanks Doc for all the great info!! HH sounds wonderful!:D

I know that you got a lot of replies already, but I wanted to give my comments. We have two DD's (11 and 9) and a DS (7). I was very nervous about going to HH. I was afraid that they would expect the theme park atmosphere or be board in general. It was the complete opposite. We rented the bikes for the lenght of stay. We allowed them to ride around the complex without us, but they had to stay together. They enjoyed their freedom to go play pool, go to the store or just ride around the paths. We booked some things through the rec. department. We all really liked them. We would ride our bike to the beach, go to the beach pool, then come back. Played shuffle board. Or just swam in the complex pool. Oh, yea, then we would have some pina coladas (not the kids).

My MIL came up from Daytona Beach. She too enjoyed it.

Just expect to relax. It is not Disney World. I cannot wait to go back.

We LOVED it!

This July we tried it for the 1st time and had a wonderful vacation. Our kids are DD (10) and twin DS (5). They enjoyed the 2 pools, the beach, the butterfly house painting, the campfires, the kid's movie night, the All American BBQ, the night time pool party, and the dolphin cruise.

You will have a great time!

Twinglemom,
We also live on Long Island and we flew out of LaGuardia to Savannah. Nice flight, small plane (but not a tiny one) and the Savannah airport is lovely. A nice 40 minute or so drive to HHI from the airport.
We love HHI. Lots to do. We rode bikes, took the Dolphin cruise (don't miss it), swam and relaxed. We also went to a wine ands cheese pairing by the chef-wonderful! And we shopped and shopped and shopped! Relaxed at the pool, in the hammocks, at the beach house jsut about everywhere.
B'Lou Crabbe did a program on local music and lore that was delightful. We met 'Shadow', and loved the campfire. It is truly not to be missed.
We went in November, 2001 and the resort was full! Lots of folks drove there because they didn't want to fly. There were also folks who stopped off on the way to WDW because of a cash special that was running. Most of them had never heard of DVC let alone the HH resort and at least 2 couples were planning on getting more info about DVC after speaking to members.

HH is a nice change of pace compared to a WDW DVC resort. Your kids will have plenty to do there.
Just make sure if you plan on going in the summer, you book it early............11 months if you can......and at 7 month mark day by day if possible.

We also are from the Buffalo, NY area and will be visiting DVC/HH beginning on the 29th of this month.

My DD age 6 LOVED HHI. She said it was better than the Cruise or Disneyland. "Let's not get carried away!"

We played miniature golf, shopped, kids activities at the resort, beach, pools, rented videos we had not seen.

Next time we are trying different activities!:Pinkbounc

We're driving from Toronto next week to HH. For those of you driving from Buffalo--where do you stop on the way?

I'm thinking somewhere between Beckley WV and Charlotte NC. Any suggestions??

Thank you!

PS Then we're going to Orlando and will be driving back from Orlando--any suggestions on where to stop would be appreciated. We're not sure yet if we want go drive home with one or two overnights. This is our first time driving there.

Ursala's Mom, now you've got me thinking (not a good idea!). Let's see, DW and I celebrate Anniversary # 10 in Oct. '05. If I can beg the in-laws to visit/babysit for a week (I'm not taking the DS's out of school.) DW and I could have a nice romantic vacation. :teeth:

Anyways, we loved HH in May 2002. We loved our room, and we liked the resort. We spent so much time with the kids' activities we didn't even make it to the beach until we were getting ready to leave.

We drove from Long Island to Hilton Head this past summer. We stopped in Fayetteville, NC the first evening and arrive at DVC around 1:00 the next day. We were nervous about driving straight through only because we were not familiar with the area and were concerned that it might be difficult to find at night.

Hilton Head Island has many regulations especially regarding signs. The sign for the DVC resort is not very large and you come across it very quickly. While we were there, someone from the resort told us that they were having a problem with the sign because they did not own the property where the sign was located and they may have to remove it and they were not sure what they were going to do about it.

We did have a wonderful stay over the 4th of July and will definitely visit again. Just make sure that you have very good directions to the resort especially if you will be arriving in the dark.

Lauri
