I'm trying to compare what is the better deal, to shop through ebates or mypoints, and I'm sure this is easily answered but my math abilities are limited! For ex, right now ebates has 4% cash for walmart and mypoints has 8points (per dollar, I assume?). Well that doesn't work out to 8%, does it?

Here was my math, feel free to flame and/or ridicule me about it... I chose my profession based on the number of math classes I did NOT have to take:rotfl: I looked up the points required for a gift card (ex, 6,850 pts for a $50 gift card), which works out to 137 points per dollar earned. To get 137 points, I'd have to spend $17.13, which works out (I think) to about 5.8%. So seems like mypoints is the better deal. Please correct me if my math is all wrong:lmao:

But do the points always change? I can't figure this out each time, this took all I had to reason through this! So, has anyone who uses both have a way to figure it out? Or know that one site is always better than the other? Or am I putting too much thought into this?! I've spent a lot the last couple of days, so a few percentage points will make a difference right now. Not so much the rest of the year.
Thanks for helping the mathematically challenged!

Your logic only works if you are redeeming for a $50 GC that costs 6850 pts. and you earned those points by making a purchase at a merchant that gives 8 pts/$ spent. Some GCs cost more points per dollar. Some cost less. And to complicate things more, some merchants will give you more than 8 pts per dollar and there are others who will offer much less.

There are no easy ways to figure it out. You need to do the math each time to determine which works better for you. Personally, I happen to prefer ebates because it's pure cash that I get every 3 months regardless of the level that I've reached. I can get a check for $7.13 or $114.87. I don't have to redeem in $25 or $50 increments for a GC that I may or may not be able to use right away. However, I still do the email surveys and click thru links for mypoints. They do add up.

Thanks. I've never used mypoints, but if the points change a lot that's not worth the extra percentage for me to calculate each time. I'll look into the links and surveys, but when I tried that before I never qualified for any after filling out everything so I gave up.

I like mypoints because of all of the bonus emails. I earn at least 20 points a day just by clicking.

Mypoints now tells you what the "value" is of your points on the upper right corner of the page, so obviously you're not the only one wondering.

I use them both, but you need to compare the deals. When Walmart offers 8 points per dollar, then that's definitely a good deal. I usually check to see what the better deal is, which varies based on the # of points or % of rebate the store offers.

I love mypoints... but the problem is there is no real way to do what you are doing - unless you know exactly what dollar amount and vendor you will redeem for. Different places are worth different amounts - and heck you can even get CASH with money right to your paypal account. I love love love mypoints. You can even get FREE GCs just by doing surveys and clicking on 5pt emails... :)
