What is the stamp for?

We went to Disneyland park in the morning, using the extra magic hours, hopped to the studios at park opening and came back in the vening. When we left Disneyland Park our hands were stamped. When we came back, nobody wanted to see our stamps, only our tickets. What exactly are the stamps for?

I have also wondered about this, whenever I'm there they insist on stamping my hand on the way out but then refuse to even look at it when I try get back in the park, only want my ticket?!

Is it to do with having single park single day tickets? Because most UK visitors have park hoppers our tickets let us in and out several times per day, but if you have a single park single day but want to eat in the Village or go to the car park, is that when you need a stamp? We dont ever bother queuing for a hand stamp and have never had a problem.

I always wonder this too and we've walked straight through without getting our hands stamped plenty of times without anyone saying anything. However we usually have to get them as the kids like to see them when we go on Peter Pan! My DH must of wiped his forehead with the back of his hand one time on our last trip as he had a lovely purple smear across his head

I may be wrong but I thought it was to do with numbers. If the park is full and you return, but have the stamp it means you have been accounted for and can get back in the park. if you don't have the stamp and the park is full you could be refused entry.
