What is the scoop on the post marathon massages?

10 for 10 minutes. Though I would suggest that waiting until the body has cooled off and relaxed a little is a better time for a post race massage. Research suggests that you actually worsen DOMS as a result of a massage at the Ned of a marathon.

A better time would be late Sunday or even Monday if you cannot get in. You are looking for time to allow the blood and waste to leave the muscle before the masage.

If you really want a massage at the finish line, make it a stretch and tell the technician to not kneed the muscle.

if you are getting a massage right after the race then it is 10 dollars at the retreat. If you are staying at disney resort. I think the best was GF. I had massages after races at beach club, boardwalk, and GF. I got the swedenish massage. It was great. If you want to go that route. You better call right now to get an appointment. They all say Marathon weekend is the busiest time for them. The appointments for them go quick. hope this help

Just to be clear here, you do it have to be a retreat member to get a massage. The massage tent for us regular runners is just after the bend in the finish line area. It is also 10 for 10 min.

Right now I cannot locate info on the post event massage other than that offered via race retreat. I thought I saw something in the places I was trolling yesterday about the cost being more like $25 for something post in the tents. (it used to be $20 so I remember thinking the $5 difference.) Darn, I have no idea where I saw this.

Could be. I do not get an immediate massage. Though I always carry $40 in the briefs just in case I need something that requires cash along the way.

It's always been about a dollar a minute.

I thought the same thing, but I think I was remembering the email with the final race instructions - which, in rereading it, was actually referring to massages available at the expo.

Used to be $10 but not sure if of the current cost. Like Charles I always carry cash. Never know.

I have only done this once and it was really a stretch and not a massage. Sure felt good.

enjoy,
Duane

I have done the $10 for 10 min all of my 5 Goofy's after the Half. Will do again. It really helps for the marathon the next day!

I recall it being $1 per minute and you could determine the length. I'm sure there was some minimum, but can't remember what it was.

I agree, it used to be $1 per minute. Two years ago, I happened to have $12 in my shorts, so I got a 12 minute massage after the marathon. Actually, it was more of a lower body stretch. Virtually no "massage" at all, but felt good to stretch out while someone else did the "work" part of it.
