What is the one piece of advise

you would pass on to fellow disboarders about your previous DL vacations?

Mine is: After 7 days and nights of walking over 12 hours, riding Grizzly River Run and Splash Mountain more times then on can remember to not wear the same shoes to the airport when leaving California, because when you remove those shoes to be xrayed the smell (oh my gosh it was bad) was enough to even be noticed by the security guard! I warned him not to make us take our shoes off but he did and that machine stopped working. I warned him but he wouldn't listen to me!~

:scared:

#1 tip EVER: Get to the park early! You can do SO much in those first couple hours.

My #1 bit of advice: read Hydroguy's fastpass tips! Since we always go at busier times, knowing how to use fastpass has been the most useful thing by far.

I'm still, :rotfl2: :rotfl2: at the shoe advice...

Obviously this advice is useless for someone from the disboards, but to people who haven't been, and who don't hear much about it - like some Australian's, my number one piece of advice is "Don't expect to see the whole park in one day!" :rotfl2:

I know! Everyone should know that! But I still have to explain to people why I'm going for 5 days... :confused3 I don't even think three days is enough!

Be careful what you eat. Everytime we go on vacation, without fail, at least one person eats too much rich food and spends at least part of the day chained to the bathroom. Eat small portions frequently throughout the day and keep hydrated. Avoid soda like the plague.

Wear some really good walking shoes that have been throughly broken in before your trip. I made the mistake one time (note I say one time!) of wearing a new pair of sandals and I got the biggest blister of my life. I also now carry moleskin and bandaids just in case anyone in the family needs them.

I tried wearing Crocs once, and they didn't have enough support for me. If you need lots of arch support (like I do) then bring a few pairs of your most comfortable walking shoes and change them if needed.

I also recommend Smartwool socks--they wick moisture away from your feet and prevent blisters and aching feet.

Get up and get going early in the morning! Have a plan (we use the Unofficial Guide) and stick to it as much as possible.

Stay within walking distance.

(oops--that's THREE pieces of advice.)

I agree. Get there when the park opens. Use FP!!! And GOOD shoes!!!!

:rotfl: that is too funny about the shoes.

My tip would be to bring advil. Dh and I both got headaches on our last trip from the noise of the rides, the sun and dehydration.

We went to the gift shop in our hotel to buy some painkillers and all they had were little packets of two and we wanted several for likely chance that our headaches would return and those iddy biddy packets were expensive. Then the lady at the till didn't want to sell us all the packets (we only were trying to buy 4 packets) because she thought we were going to take them all at once :rotfl:

I will be contrarian with my advice.........at least once stay at the park an hour after the official close time. Absolutely magical. Make sure you try most of the rides again after dark for a new and different experience.

I'm going to stay in the park after closing time just once this trip. I  DL at night.

Just 4 more weeks to go!

how long do they let you linger?popcorn::

@ WDW, if you are in line when the park closes you get to ride; otherwise they clear out the parks rather quickly...except for shopping on mainstreet;) .

I think that's what she meant...Say DL closes at 8:00 PM...Main Street will stay open until 9:00. I've never shopped, but I have hung back at the hub until the last possible moment and just soaked in the atmosphere.

It's especially beautiful when the Christmas decorations are lit up. :santa:

I love to people-watch as they leave the park. popcorn::

Try and avoid the parks on weekends when they are packed with locals. Use the weekend to shop offsite or travel down the coast. With that being said we are doing DCA on a Saturday next month :faint:

what I have seen enforced at DL related to closing (could change at any time)

1. closing is the time when no one can enter the queue, up to 15 minutes prior to closing you can join the queue of any open ride.

2. Closing means all shops and food outside of Main st close.

3. Main st shops and eateries may stay open up to one hour after close.

4. Up to one hour after close most of the major walkways are open and you will not be "talked to" as long as you look like you have good intentions of exiting ie ambling in the direction of main st :)

Yes, except for #1. Up to closing you can join the queue of any open ride.

True. In August, we stayed until midnight one night and my son and I were in line for Peter Pan. They closed the line at exactly midnight so everyone in line got to ride but no one else was allowed to get in line. Then we went to Main Street to meet up with the rest of the family. The shops were all open and quite busy. We left around 12:30 and tons of people were still exiting.

I just don't want anyone to be dissapointed by cutting it too close........especially since we don't synchronize our watches with official CM time.

On hot days, be sure to spend time in air conditioning. Ex. you just went on BTMRR and had to wait in line for let's say 30 mins. Take time after that ride to duck into a shop and cool off. That way you'll be less likely to get headaches, suffer from excess sun exposure, and less likely to feel nauseated after a ride like that.
