my grandmothers maiden name means Kirche, a church. Gaelic, cearcall, a circle, the primitive places of worship among the Celts were round, a symbol of eternity, and the existence of the Supreme Being, without beginning or end.

I assume, that my last name was the job of the person who had it back then, then gave it to his slave, who would be my ancestor. Doubt very seriously that there were any "Shipman"s in Africa.

My maiden name means English, originally designated a servant on the estate whose duty was to cultivate the flower and vegetable gardens. (But my dad was adopted by his stepfather.....his biological father's name was something Hungarian that I have no idea of how to spell.)
