what is the going rate

My daughter works as a lifeguard for a country club.(We live in Maine) She uses their pool to give private lessons. The cost is $30 per hour and the club gives my daughter $18 of that. If it was at a private home, then $20 or $25 an hour wouldn't be out of the question.

In small town Iowa, it is $6.50 per half hour at the town pool. The lifeguard gets it all personally.

It depends on where you live. $35/30 minute session or $50/hour.

When I was a lifeguard I was paid whatever I was paid hourly. The country club made all the money

we had a college student lifeguard come to our house for our kids. It cost $40 for the hour (1/2 hour each kid). That was enough time for each kid. I think she had to come 5 times or so - they were both swimming by the 2nd time, we had her just come a few more times until we were comfortable. Way worth the money, time saved, no $ for gas to drive them to lessons, etc. Totally the way to go!

If the lessons are for a child Red Cross certified is a really good way to go. They not only taught how to swim but what to do if you fall in unexpectedly, get injured, cramp stuff like that. My DD once shimmied off the edge at a pool in Orlando accidentally when she was 6 and did exactly what she was taught to do... I never was so happy to have spent $. I don't remember the prices but it was $ well spent. Red cross certified will cost more no matter what age because they teach water safety.
