Does anyone know why River Country is closed? What was it like when it was open? A water park, like Typhoon or smaller? I know it is in the Ft. Wilderness campgrounds, but I just can't figure out why it is closed or what it used to be. Just curious.

It was an old fashion "water hole" with ropes tied to trees that you could swing on out over the water. Nothing at all like BB or TL.
Opinions vary as to why it closed. Some say the water was polluted some say it was just too tame and didn't get enough use.

It was a pretty mild water park and I suspect that's what did it in. Not enough thrills and chills, and therefore not enough visitors. You have to think if it was making money for Disney, it would still be open ringing up those cash registers. Ka-ching! We did like it though. It was a nice option for the more laid back guests.

We went the year it opened and to me( a child) it was way cool. It was the first water park I had ever been to. Think tubes like tire tubes! They were hilarious! There were 2 water slides that I remember(I still can recall the bubbles") And there was a mid-pond dock that had a zip line thing that would zip you out to the middle and then just snap to a stop and you would go flying into the water. :rotfl: So fun. I honestly think that it was way too unsafe in this lawsuit driven time- and too tame for big thrill seakers(although too rough for little kids)
