What is the Contemporary pool like? I've always wanted to stay there, but a fun pool is important to our family.
So what's it like?

it's mickey head shaped with a normal size water slide. Nothing terribly spectacular but the waterslide is cool. My kids at 2 and 4 liked the thing by the pool where the water spurts up here and there. They were a bit afraid of the slide. it's been 3 years since we were there.

This is our favorties resort pool! I find the pool big enough, but we usually go either early morning or late in the evenings. They have a fountain just out side of pool on one part that squirts water into pool creating a water tunnel the kids love to swim under. They have a water slide that is like water parks, blue and not enclosed. Not a huge slide but not a short one either, if memory serves me, I think 3 curves. At one point that had fountains that shoot up from the concrete in places along the pool, like those at Epcot and DTD where if you step on them they squirt up or they stop, the kids loved those but I'm not sure if they are still there. Also one time we went to the pool during heat of day and they had a small carribean band playing that was fun. It has been a while since we have been there but unless things have changed it is a great pool. They also have a hot tub that is right there by the pool so parents can sit and watch the kids. And of course they have the great lifeguards at every section of the pool, in fact they have the only pool that I have seen that has a lifeguard at the top of the slide telling you when to go. Hope this helps and have a great time!:)

The CR pool is very 70's mod. We don't like it because it doesn't really have a personality. The other deluxe resorts do a great job creating a mood with plantings, music, etc. Beyond the pool being in the shape of a Mickey Head you would think you were just in an ok place, certainly not in the middle of the Magic.

It's Mickey shaped??? How in the world did I miss this?? I have pics from our balcony and we looked at it every day and I never saw it.

If pool is your main thing I suggest you change resorts

CR has no theme and terribly boring>>>>>>>>>>

very concrete with a bland snack area

totaly unimpressed with it. felt Disney could spruce it up since it is a premier resort.

we stayed there last year and glad we did because we had MK view concierge level. Actually we were able to stay prior to the boost in price to be on MK side.

However, I would not do it again. Prefer the Poly....

Definitely not my favorite pool - not very attractive and the slide is old. But...my kids liked it (almost 8 yrs old at the time). They liked the center fountainy thing and they liked the area near the pool where the water shoots up. And...the beach is nice too. The slide is spiral but it's just a regular pool slide... no rocks or volcano or any theme to speak of - from what I recall (and I did go down it myself!) it's longer than the slides at WL or AKL but not as long as the slides at BW or GF. Probably same length as Poly slide - which BTW I do not like because of the dark section. And the other thing I don't like is that it doesn't have a zero-entry area because even though I try all slides at least once, I'm really a wader at heart!

Check allearsnet for pictures of the pool - there are a few views there (and the slide looks shorter than I remember).

But all comments about the pool aside - Contemporary is a fun resort. And it's sooo classic WDW that for Disney fans I think it's worth staying there at least once!

The thing I remember most about the pool (aside from it seeming boring) is that the concrete around the pool area was extremely hot.

Years ago we used to always stay at the CR until the WL was built. We fell in love with the place and price. Back in the 70's the bullseye pool was for us. Now, all the resorts do terrific theming of their pool areas but it seems the CR was left out. Don't get me wrong, its a huge pool and good slide for kids but its all located in a huge chunk of cement, concrete all aroung that reflects and retains the Florida heat. Shade is non existent as are umbrella tables near the pool area. Its not drab for the futuristic theme of the Contemporary but sparse. We like shade, trees, landscape and novel theme in our pools so our resort choices stem around whats in the pool area. We spend our leisure time around and in the pool, whether just relaxing, a break and a book, catching some rays, a sandwich and beer picnic or just a cooling refreshing dip but the atmosphere of the WL and Poly seems to be our favorites. We visit the CR alot during our stays, still has the best shopping and lounge and the gameroom is second to none but the lack of a lush themed pool has made our choice of resort for staying towards WL and Poly.

Very boring looking pool. Probably the only reason it has a lifeguard at the top is because it's so dated. The newer pools have an auto light that turns green when it is time to go down the slide. It works great at the Poly pool and kids seem to obey it. DD, 7, didn't even want to get in the pool. She kept saying she wanted to go over to the Poly and get in the nice pool! We stayed at the CR last year because it was something we had always wanted to try once. Glad we did but we won't be back.

We enjoy the Contemporary and the pool. Here are a few pics so you can see for yourself. I don't think it is a full Mickey shape but it is very circular in shape.

Pool area at night (note the fireworks from MK over on the right of the tower)

It is decent, but that is about it. Nothing too great. The one thing we did enjoy was the hot tubs. I thought the hot tubs were a good size.

Thanks for the info everyone. :goodvibes Does anyone remember how deep it gets? Are there areas where it is waist high, deeper or shallower? I will have a 5, almost 3 and 1 yr old when we go. I know there is no zero entry, :sad1: so wondering if all 3 will be stuck to the edges. We are pretty much in the water people and they are very comfortable in pools but I will need some edge area. Also, I was told we can get free lifejackets at the pool. Anyone tried these out? Classic middle child loves to launch herself into the water, :cutie: even if no one is ready to catch her! :sad2: Thanks!

Can just hope when they complete the building of DVC the pool will also be changed and updated......least favorite pool of any resort I have stayed.

Hmm, we were just there...but my kids are older and I didn't pay close attention to these issues. I think max depth was about 4 ft and I don't think there were any real shallow areas. There is a separate round pool that is a bit deeper (5 ft) in the center. I saw lots of kids in life jackets. They are not puffy and soft. They keep their shape. They seemed effective.

There is also a sand beach. You are not allowed to swim but kids can play in the water at the edge.

It's all the same dept, around 3.5' if I remember correctly. During our last stay, our dd wasn't able to swim yet, so I basically had to "swim" her around the pool. No kiddie pool either. There used to be years ago, but it was filled in. A tough pool for little kids who can't swim.:guilty:
