What is the cheapest way to book?

We are planning our first trip for April or June 2010. I am overwhelmed to say the least. Of course I want the best deal I can find, but I also want to make sure I get a themepark view room at either the Poly or Contempory Resort. On Disney's website I saw that I cannot check prices or make reservations that far in advance, but I read that a lot of people call and book room only so that you get your desired room and then add tickets and things later. Is this the best route to go (booking through Disney) or are there beter discounts by booking through another website or travel agent? I really don't know where to start. If I find promos later after booking a room can that discount be applied to my reservation later or will I be stuck wit the "rack rate" Please help, any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

If you book now and get a pin code for your dates or a public offer comes out, you just call and see if it applies to your existing reservation. It just depends on if your resort and room type are included and then the avaiable number of rooms of that type for the particular discount.

If getting a Theme Park view is most important to you, then go ahead and call to book a room only ressie now. Then if you want to make it a package later on when rates are released, then you can do that.

What you have to understand is that codes/pins (or any kind of discounted rate) are often only released for specific room types with specific availability.

For example, I booked a room-only ressie for January at AKL Pool View. An Annual Passholder rate was released and I was able to book that with the Pool View, but then when the General Public Buy4Get3 Deal was released the only availability for my dates was in a Standard Room. For me the cost was pretty much the same so I chose to keep my AP rate and my Pool View.

Basically, book what you want, and then when the discounts are released make a decision based on your options. Unfortunately, you may find you can't get a discounted rate for your room type or even at your resort altogether.

Who gets pins and codes? You guys are making it sound like anyone can get one, but we have been to WDW many times and never gotten one:confused3
I doubt that this person who has never been to WDW before will get a pin code. IF a special deal is offered to the general public then, YES, the OP can call and re-book to get that offer. Many people get good deals from AAA, or if you have a Disney Visa they have different offers too.
Personally, I would not book this far in advance. I would wait for the deals to come out. We most likely will go in May 2010 too!
