What is the cheapest cell plan for 2 lines?

OP must live in an more urban area than I do. We live in a rural area. There's barely 2-way cable modem let alone wi fi!

I live in Bozeman, MT and Verizon is the leader here for coverage. I really can't believe it's still so expensive for service. Kajeet is such a good deal if only we could get it here! I guess I'll have to commit to spending another $30 or $40 a month. Thanks everyone for the info!

That depends where you live. My work cell is Verizon and I have to use my personal T-Mobile phone a lot when traveling for work because it has service when verizon has none. I travel Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio and I would never have verizon as my personal carrier based on the multiple times a day I look at both phones and T-mobile always has bars and verizon either doesn't have them or has less then the T-mobile phone. OP: I would suggest asking about reception and different carriers around where you live, you may be suprised who has the better reception.

I know but I believe that the OP is already a Verizon customer so if has happy with the coverage she has it would be a less expensive option. Dh and I have Verizon but my dd has Virgin Mobile (texters delight 1000 text and calls $.05/min for $14.99 mo., you can do unlimited text for $19.99) and she does not get the coverage that we do, in fact she can't really use her phone at our house.

I would try talking to a different person at Verizon. I added DH to my plan a few years ago when his AT&T cell phone died (it was cheaper than having 2 plans) and we just recently added my mom on for $9.99 more.

When we went to Verizon to add mom on they told me that I would have to upgrade my plan because my plan didn't exist any more and it would be $80 a month plus the extra line. I told them if I had to upgrade we wouldn't add the extra line and mom would stay with AT&T. Suddenly, I didn't have to upgrade, they added mom on (with her same phone #) and the total bill is $65 a month. Mom bought a $20 phone w/house charger and Verizon gave her a free car charger, earphone set and case with her new phone. They even took care of cancelling mom's AT&T account for her.

Sometimes it pays to say no and be ready to walk away!

Thank you. That is definitely worth a try! Especially because I WILL walk away if it's too much. ;)

If you already have the $50 Tracfone and you get okay coverage with that, I would not give up on it just yet.

First, there are always all kinds of codes for tracfone minutes. Never add a card without an internet search to see what the deals are. Tracfone will also call and email you about deals. You could probably double or triple the minutes with a code vs retail price.

BTW, did you get the double minutes for life card with her phone? If not, you absolutely want to make sure you have this...buy it and add it.

Another option is with Tracfone are the monthly plans. This is fairly new (last year or so) but worth checking out on their website. You will still get double minutes with the plans.

Also, maybe do some research on using your Tracfone. You can receive partial texts for free (they come in and you can read the first 10 letters or so without actually pressing okay to get the text and pay for the text). If your daughter can manipulate this enough with her friends, that will save her a ton of minutes.

We have two teens (14 and 15) and they both have tracfones. They both have their Facebook accounts hooked to their phones. Our 15 year old is especially fierce with texting, but he has learned to live within his budget of minutes or he runs out for the month and has to go without. I think this is an absolutely vital lesson for kids. Use this as a teaching tool now and it will translate to finances and budgets in the future.

I always check the fatwallet.com thread on tracfone codes, and we do have the DMFL and still she has gone through a lot of moolah in a month via cards. :flower3: Love the idea on the not opening the texts!! Especially when the texts are "ya", "ok", "hi", "see ya", "what up?" :rotfl2: They drive me crazy!

Im not sure if they are available near you but my friend just went to Boost mobile and it is $50 month for unlimited calling, text, and internet. I know it uses the sprint network. He hasn't had it long enough to tell how good it is.

It should also be noted that Verizon now owns Altel, so if you go with Altel, in a few months, you will have the same problem. We're having this situation where I live.

Also, Verizon gives discounts for state employees. I think we get 20% off for our service.

I just got my dd a cell phone from WalMart. Its called straight talk and for 45 bucks a month she gets unlimited talk text and web. They use verizon towers so the coverage is the same. This was the cheapest I could find for her even with contract plans as this is pre paid.
