Hi guys! Based on your experience. Which of these restaurants is the best in Disney Hollywood Studios?:scratchin
  • 50's Prime Time Café
  • Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano
  • Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater
Thank you so much in advance! :flower3:

Welllllll, DHS is not my favorite park to eat at. In fact we usually leave the park to eat else where because the food here isn't that great and there are so many places we still want to try, so not to waste money or TS credits at places we don't care for, we leave.

If I had to rate the three you've picked I would rate accordingly...
1) Mama's but only if you order the steak or flatbreads, the pasta and sauce are nasty! The steak was very good!
2) 50's Prime Time for the meatloaf, pot roast or chicken, I'm not a big fan of any of these but they are decent and get good reviews by many.
3) Last and certainly least Sci-Fi but ONLY for the burgers and shakes, if you order anything else your taking a HUGE chance on it being pretty bad.
Sorry, I wish I had better news for you. If your certain you won't leave the park then I would say go to Backlot Express and have a burger, at least there you get refills on your drinks and they have a fixins bar. I know, I know we all avoid the burgers while at WDW because we think we'll end up having them the entire time, but hey if your going to get your burger on here's a pretty darn good place to do it. Then you can save your extra TS and maybe eat at a really great 2 TS place instead. :goodvibes Or you could go to Hoo-Dee-Doo review, this show is suppose to be outstanding entertainment for the whole family! :goodvibes

I highly recommend you look at AllEars.net for reviews, this will help you immensely. Just click on Rate and Review , then pan down the page to Dining. Good luck! This place saved me so many times on what to make ADR's for...or not to make ADR's for. :)

oh I see.....:guilty: Thank you for the tip (reviews) :thumbsup2

I haven't done Mama Melrose's (although I have heard good things). I have done both 50's Prime Time and Sci-Fi, and am going back to 50's prime time this next trip. I am no food snob but I think both places are great. They both have really fun atmospheres. Sci-Fi has that cool drive-in, it really looks like you are outside, and sitting in the cars are fun. 50's Prime Time I like because of the whole 50s decor and the moms and cousins who wait on you. Both restaurants serve "comfort food" but that is all right with me :)

Out of those three the only one I would suggest NOT doing is Mama's.

Between 50's and Sci-Fi, I prefer 50's. I am glad I did Sci-Fi. The atmosphere is worth checking out once. We were not impressed with the menu options and what we settled on ordering was not all that good.

We usually only spend a little more than half a day at DHS, so we love to go to 50's for lunch. The menu is far superior then that of Sci-Fi and the food just tastes better, IMO. The atmosphere is nice, it's a bit before my time but reminds me of my grandparents house when I was little.

If we had to eat at DHS we would choose Mama Melrose for dinner. I had the spaghetti Fra Diablo there and it wasn't bad at all. DBF had the salmon and thought it was quite good. The Creme Limone was a light, refreshing dessert (no sugar added dessert). For lunch we've enjoyed Sci Fi (we wouldn't do this for dinner). The cheeseburgers, reubens and milkshakes are fine for lunch and it's a nice cool place to dine , especially in the summer.

The Hollywood Brown Derby is a detailed replica of its legendary namesake and is fantastic. The atmosphere is nice,

We eat at Mama Melrose often and like it.. The other two we are not as familiar with. We usually eat lunch there, so I am not familiar with their dinner menu.

My family loves SciFi and insist on going every trip now. We ate at Mama Melrose's a few years ago and couldn't stand it - gross steak, gross pasta, gross chicken - you get the point. :sad2: Haven't done 50's PrimeTime Diner since I was a kid so I can't comment on that.

We have eaten at Sci Fi and 50s PT numerous times and I think that both are solid TS meal choices for a DHS day. Granted, we've never had an outstanding meal at either but we've had some pretty darn good ones. We also love the different than the norm atmosphere that both offer.

An Internet fact: If you ask a multiple choice question you will get every answer. Why? Because people are different. You will just have to choose and go for it! If you don't like it, then you move on the next one.

With that said... If I had to choose one of the three I would go with 50's PT. I've eated at Mama Melrose once and it was not bad. Certainly not terrible. Just a pretty generic Italian restaurant.

I've eaten at Sci-Fi probably 5 times and they are very consistantly mediocre. But their burger are better than a counter service burger. It isn't horrible and I would eat there again for the mood and AC. :)

You will get opinions all over the place so I suggest looking at the menu for each place that you are interested in and go from there.

In DHS we've eaten at 50's, Sci-Fi & Mama. We usually do both Sci-Fi and Mama at least once each trip but if I could only pick one I'd go with Mama. We have always had great service there and the food has always been wonderful. I leave Mamas feeling full and happy. With Sci-Fi I leave feeling happy, not so full but we also only will do lunch there. And with 50s I leave asking myself why we just spent that much money on our less than good meal and I'm looking for a snack.

At Mamas DH & I both usually get the chicken parm and it is yummy!! The chicken isn't beaten to the width of a piece of cardboard, it is tender and juicy and the amount you get is very filling. The kids (5 & 9) tend to split a kid's spaghetti because it is a pretty generous helping.

At Sci-Fi DH usually gets the burger (he says it is the second best burger on property, second only to Le Cellier), I get the grilled chicken sandwich which is pretty darn tasty and the kids get either hot dogs or burgers.

The last time at 50s Dh's pot roast was mostly fat, my meatloaf was a small single slab of semi-dry meatloaf with a small ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes and some green beans. At the end of the meal they messed up our desserts and brought out the wrong items to half of us. :sad2: We tried this place three times before completely giving up and swearing it off.

LOL at all the mixed reviews.

Another vote for Mamas here. I love the Penne Alla Vodka.

I've had great meals at all and some not-so-great meals at all. The most recent meal (a few weeks ago) was at the Sci-Fi and my burger was pretty good, but not $12 good. A friend sent two chicken sandwiches back before finally settling on the reuben, which was just okay. For me, I would choose either the Backlot Express CS or go elsewhere. If you decide on Backlot and go outside to eat, hang on to your napkins and other lightweight stuff as you go out the door. There's a powerful a/c blower that will clear everything light off your tray.

We tried all three last trip and would return to any one.

My favorite was Sci-Fi. I stuck to the basics though- onion rings, burger and the cookie shake. Yum!

Mama Melrose was good but it was just an everyday italian place.

50's was my least favorite but that may have been since we had to wait like an hour to be seated. The place was packed and there was nowhere to sit while waiting. I have seen reports that others have had this issue too. I doubt we pick this one just for this reason. Once seated the food was pretty good.

I like the reuben at Sci-Fi and the stacked sandwich with ham at 50s Prime Time. It's been a long time since I have eaten at Mama Melrose, and that was only once.

You didn't ask, but I really like the Cobb Salad at the Brown Derby for lunch. :)
