What do people think is the best character meal at DLR? Which ones have the most unique characters?

.... changed WDL to DLR ;)

In terms of the character meals, there aren't a lot of of them at DLR and most all are breakfast.
Plaza Inn (breakfast) - Minnie and friends; this has probably the most eclectic mixture of characters. Guests have reported seeing Rafiki, the Fairy Godmother, Tigger, Eeyore, Max, and others like that.
Ariel's Grotto (breakfast and lunch) - Princesses
Storytellers (breakfast) - Chip, Dale, and other woodland friends (Meeko, Kenai, and Koda)
Goofy's Kitchen (all meals) - Goofy and friends
PCH Grill (breakfast) - Mickey and friends (I saw Daisy, Pluto, Stitch, and Minnie).

We've done them all with DD5 except for PCH Grill - DD5's favorite is Ariel's (love those princesses!) and my favorite is Plaza Inn with Storyteller's as a close 2nd. We had a 7:10 reservation at Plaza Inn on a MM/EE day (we stay off site) so we got to enter early w/ the EE-ers, then get our food very quickly since we had the earliest reservation time (even though the chef made our own food as we have gluten allergies), had great interaction with all the characters, and were still done by the 8am regular rope drop.

The food was the best at Ariel's Grotto and Storytellers.
The character interaction was best at Surf's Up and Plaza Inn.

BTW - there is no such thing as WDL...it is and always has been just Disneyland.

We just did Surf's Up, Ariel, and Storytellers and I'd never do any of them again. The character interactions were weak. Food was good (especially at Ariel) but not worth the money for me with the lack of good characters. Rapunzel was great, Pluto was cute, Meeko was decent-the rest of them at all 3 meals allowed my daughter to hug them, then posed for a picture and left. (And after being at Storytellers for over an hour, some of them never even came to our table. It wasn't busy.)

This is a subject about which many people have very strong opinions, and many people have had very different experiences at all of the meals -- ranging from wonderful to terrible! :lmao: You'll find that sometimes there is a wave of threads detailing the bad experiences, and then another wave comes along where everything is positive. I think that any and all restaurants (character meals and otherwise) have good days and bad days.

My personal favorite is Goofy's Kitchen. I have a long, long history of eating there (going back to 1992), so even the days that have been 'not as great' in that time frame are not enough to turn me away. I have had enough good experiences there to outweigh any less than stellar experiences. I like the larger selection and variety of food at the GK buffet than at the other meals. Unlike the other character meal restaurants, Goofy's exists only to be a character meal -- in other words, whether you choose to do the breakfast/brunch (there is no character "lunch," per se, and the restaurant closes for a few hours in between brunch and dinner) or the dinner, there will always be characters. The other character meal restaurant locations have meals without characters as well.

I am not thrilled with the fact that Goofy's cut the number of characters down to 5, but 5 characters is pretty much what you will get at all of the meals except for Minnie & Friends. Minnie & Friends has the most characters -- everyone can agree on that.

Surf's Up with Mickey is the only meal with Mickey and Stitch, and you will see Daisy there as well. The character interaction is really good, and they are very attentive.

The Critter Breakfast at Storytellers Café is a more subdued, laid back character meal (quite a contrast to the high octane energy at Goofy's Kitchen), and the only one with Koda and Kenai. A lot of people like the food at this meal.

good post! I just cancelled my Storytellers and switched to Surfs up for my one day adventure with my 5 year old! I have never just done 1 day before excited and nervous

Ooh... that's a great idea! I may try that. I hadn't wanted to waste valuable morning park time on breakfast but really wanted to do Plaza Inn. We are staying off-site too, so this would allow us to eat breakfast there without losing time since we wouldn't have been allowed in yet normally anyway!
