We are taking out dd who will be 18 months when we go. I have been reading about the carriers. I have a bjorn, which she did not like at all, plus it started to hurt my shoulders. What would you recommend as far as carriers go? We are bringing her stroller but would also like a good carrier for lines and such. Thank you for your help!

I just posted a lot of info about this on another post... You can go to http://thebabywearer.com/ tons of info and very helpful ladies there.
A few of my favorites carriers are http://babyhawk.com/ i have 2 that i LOVE!
Beco's are awesome http://ecobabies.com/ or here they are in stock ready to ship here http://www.littlepearlbabywear.com/catalog.php?category=20 i love this , i have a kimono cathedral :)
Also a peanut shell pouch is good http://goo-ga.com/ , i had a microfleece pouch when the baby was newborn and got a reversible non stretch for quick hip carries....pm me with any questions!

I agree with most of the above :)

I disagree about the sling. At 18 mos ergonomically it just isn't great to have all the weight on one shoulder, especially if you aren't used to it. I do have a ring sling that I still use with DS ( www.zolowear.com ), but I've been using it for a long time, so I've built up the strength for it. Even still I can't use it for long without it aggravating my pinched nerve. It is nice for quick in and outs, though, so if you are up for two carriers I would get a sling as a second.

I love my Babyhawk, but I don't find Mei Tais practical for a Disney sort of outing. The ties aren't always convenient.

I am bringing a Beco to Disney tomorrow. It's great because it can be either front or back carrying. You can also roll it up and wear it like an ugly fanny pack without your child in it (fashionable, no, but nice to have it out of the way when your child will be in and out).

Similar to the Beco is the Ergo, which is a bit more "mainstream." I didn't like it as much because it is bulkier and the body is shorter, which isn't good for my DS who likes to arch his back and do back flips.

There is also the Yamo (I believe that is how it is spelled) and the Patapum which are similar to the Beco and Ergo, but I have no experience with them.

Having a good carrier, even if you are using a stroller, is great. There is so much time in lines and wandering through tight places that it is nice to have an easy way to carry a baby or toddler.

AT 18 mos I would recommend a more structured carrier like the Beco, ERgo or Patapum. All 3 are awesome carriers, amazingly comfy, can be used on front or back. I have a Beco and a patapum and love them both. I took my ds to Disney in Nov. when he was 19ish mos and we used our Beco. He loves the beco. I almost always use a back carry b/c it's so comfy. The beco rocks. THey are beautiful!

I have a babyhawk mei tai and love it but now that my ds is older find the more structured carrier far more comfy for long term carries.

Thank you so much for your help!

Her favorite position is me hoolding her facing forward. Can she sit in the Beco facing outwards? She will not like it if she has to face inwards (towards me). Thanks again!

Try your Bjorn again at the mall. We took our son at nearly 2, facing outwards and used it on rides and in shows with great ease. I know from experience that most people who are uncomfortable in it are wearing it too low. Put your child in it and then pull the straps so the child is high, you should probably have to look around or up and over her head at that age.

You've got a great carrier for the need. Give it another shot.

I have to agree, the Bjorn is great, we take DS in it all over the place. I dont think he will make it to two in it. ( He's tall and big) But we are hoping at least for Disneyworld lines and for on rides and stuff. He loves it when DH carries him in it. Me he keeps turning to look at me ( Like are you still here?) So its all set up for DH, we also have the Active version with the extra back support

I think that a two sholdered carrier is better, but agree that with the posters that said get something other then what you have the baby bjorn just isn't for bigger older babies and there are better choices... :)
