We just bought at BCV and I am confused as to why you may to buy in at different resorts. Why have 150 at one resort, 75 at another, 100 at another, etc. I assume that your home resort is the one where you have the most points so you have to wait 7 mos to book at resorts that you have lesser points. Am I correct or am I missing something?
Also, the different use years and banking/borrowing at different times would drive me crazy.

Thanks

MrsG,

Here is our reason for having 2 home resorts, I am sure you will get more posts to this as well. We have most of our pts at OKW(300). So we have the 11 month window there to get OKW whenever we want ,if we book it at 11 months (you have 99% chance to get your ressies at 11 months). By having OKW as a home resort we are guaranteed to be on WDW property. If we would like to try BCV,VWL, or BWV we can check for availablity at the 7 month window and switch our original ressies at OKW at that time to one of the others (BCV,VWL, or BWV).
The reason we added on at VB(160) is to have 1 off-site(VB) DVC property and 1 on-site(OKW). We wanted to have a property on the ocean like VB so we bought pts there(VB is a 1st class resort)
I think down the road it will be hard to get ressies at VB at the 7 month window (1BR or Beach Cottages). There are only 6 Beach Cottages(GV"s) at VB so we wanted to have the 11 month window to be able to get the ressies that we want(whether it is 1 or 2BR or Beach Cottages).
Also we plan on adding on a few days at VB after each trip to OKW, and now we can make resservations at the 11 month window at OKW and VB.
We have the same use yr(Sept) at both VB and OKW, so it isn't that complicated for us.
;)

I have points at OKW (240), VB (100), BWV (50), and VWL (60) -
OKW is my home resort and I love it. VB was gotten for the beach, and the ocean view.

I love to go to WDW for the first two weeks in December - which is what both BWV (epcot easy access) and VWL (MK easy access) - I have enough points for a studio for 5 days which is all I need - if I want a 1-bedrooom I can bank them. but I really have enough going at December to much too bank them.

I think you are confused and the last two posters didn't help.

Each of them has multiple home resorts. They may have refered to the resort they own the most at as their 'home resort', but that isn't really true.

You have 11 month booking with the number of points you have at that resort.

150 OKW and 50 BWV.....at 11 months out, you can make a reservation worth up to 150 points at OKW....to use the 50 BWV points at OKW, you would have to wait till the seven month window and hope for availability.

Similarly, if you wanted a BWV vacation this year, you could book 50 points worth at 11 months and then hope their is still availability at seven months when you could use your 150 OKW points at BWV.

Another method is to alternate years. Bank BWV points one year and use OKW and borrow next year's OKW points....now you have two year of OKW points with 11 month advantadge, next year you will have two years worth of BWV points to use at 11 months.

Q: What is the advantage to buying points at different resorts?

A: Being able to book at those resorts with the 11 month window.

Some folks also have points at different resorts because they did add-ons after their original resort was sold out.

Our plan is to eventually alternate years--one at BWV, one at VWL, etc. with perhaps an exchange every few years to liven things up. Why stay the same place every year? Both of our "homes" have their advantages.

We book the VWL at the 11 month window primarily for a Magic Kingdom centered vacation. We book the BWV at the 11 month window for an MGM/EPCOT centered vacation. We always go during popular times of the year so the 11 month window is important to us. The two resorts are so different that it really makes for a different vacation experience with each trip.

Any resort for which you own points is your 'home' resort - for those points, giving you the 11 month booking window for those points at that resort. Technically, additional points are 'add-ons', but you have a home resort, 11-mo. booking window, for all the points you own.

Most people have the same use year for all of their contracts. However, if their 'use-year' month is already sold out, they may decide to purchase another month. I'm sure there are other reasons some decide to get different use years for different resorts.

Our reason was a combination of the above. Our two favorite resorts are BWV and VWL...so we own points at both(most at BWV). We did this so we can alternate stays - banking forward one year, staying there the next. All of this to get the 11 month window to book.
I also believe that trying to add-on, especially small points, you are pretty much limited to what Disney is currently offering.

Let's see . . .

1) People may like different resorts for different times of the year.

2) People may like different resorts and want like to stay for longer periods at other resorts by grouping their points.

3) They may want to get in at 11-mth window at another reosrt, then try to add days at the 7-mth window from other DVC property.

4) They could not buy additional points at their preferred resort, so they bought anywhere they could.

5) Points are different prices at different DVC's, so they bought at a cheaper DVC knowing all along that they wished to group their points for a longer stay at a particular DVC.

6) They bought at an alternate resort that they tought they would like, and found out they did not like the additional resort that much so they use the points at another resort.

7) Some people buy anything Disney.

8) Some buy hoping to pass along to the kids, so they bought different resorts when points were not available at the same resort.

9) I am sure there are other reasons.
