What is so great about Le Cellier?

From reading the boards the last few weeks it seems Le Cellier has a huge following. I got sucked in and unsuccessfully tried to make an ADR. What's so great about this place though? The cheddar cheese soup looked really good but what separates the steaks from any number of other steak restaurants in WDW? And what makes it better (at least it seems from the legions of followers) from all the other TS restaurants in the World Showcase?

I like the steaks at Le Cellier, but they're not the best I've ever had. The maple-BBQ glazed one was special though. The soup is delicious, especially with the pretzel bread.

We enjoy Le Cellier, but find it to be over-hyped. I think it is so popular because it's one of the best TS 1 credit restaurants on the DDP. We don't do the DDP though and it isn't the best steak on property. In fact, I don't even know why they call it a steakhouse when they only have 3 steaks on the menu. :confused3

Le Cellier used to have (even when not shown on the menu) a steak and lobster tail meal that was great! It appears it is no longer available so in my humble opinion that now makes this just another steakhouse although my father and husband are both "picky" eaters and to them the food at Le Cellier is "normal" - meaning there is nothing on the menu they need to have explained to them so it gives them a comfort level to eat there!

I can't comment on how it compares to other steaks at WDW because I have never had steak anywhere else. Be that as it may I found everything delicious. The cheddar cheese soup, the steak, the pretzel bread. Even my DH who is the pickiest adult I have ever met cleaned his plate. I am sure they aren't the greatest steaks ever but I find them delicious and I love atmosphere of the place. Like all things it's really a matter of personal taste. Some people would die if they didn't get to go there on each trip *coughDHcough* and others could care less. In my personal opinion it is worth a try if you can get in.

In a word nothing! We just ate there and were so disappointed. The cheese soup was not good at all. The breadsticks were just ok. The steaks were just Ok. We found much better food in Disney world than this. I went with the reservation because of all the hype on this board about it and we were very disappointed. Maybe we expected too much? I don't know. We won't go back. There are so many other good restaurants in disney. I know everyone has their opinions, but we were just not impressed with Le Cellier. I raved about it to DH and DD13 because of all the good comments here and they looked at me like I was crazy afterward.

umm, yeah, two words: mushroom risotto.

(well, and the steak that goes along with it. Especially when you start the meal with the cheddar cheese soup and bread. The desserts aren't anything special, though.)

It's our favorite non-signature meal. Actually, it is #2 overall to Cali Grill.

Narcosse's for one. Teppan Edo for another. Even tony's. Oh and Coral Reef. I think I could go on if I went through my list.

Many consider Le Cellier the best the WS has to offer. I don't. I like it, but I think its a bit overrated. I would go again, don't get me wrong, but its not the best place at WS IMHO.

The cheddar cheese soup was the second best I've ever had (local spot is a kick up)

We are from Nebraska...beef state, right? Mom said it was the best steak she has EVER had. The only steak I eat is filet, and I found it as good as any I have tried. I had salmon & she had a bit and said it second only to the salmon she ate in Alaska. It did melt in your mouth. And that risotto...OMG!
(pretzel breadsticks didn't do it for me, either)Dessert was biggest disappointment.

Where is there a better steak in WDW than LeCellier?

I'll name places previous posters haven't, though I agree with all of theirs. :)

Kona, Spoodles, Cali Grill - I've had better steaks at all of them.

Also, at Universal (I know, I know) Chop Tchoup.

What is so great about Le Cellier?

the service is consistently good, the steaks are consistently good, the deserts are good, the appetizers are good. They do the right things right and you can count on them to be right most of the time. there are the occasional naysayers saying nay... but, the positives out weight the negatives by a large margin.

Agree with your comments. We were underwhelmed and unimpressed and my wife is from Canada. Many TS restaurants continue to feed off their former reputations as a result of this new group of Disney TS Diners who just recently started dining at these restaurants. I am glad they get to enjoy TS, but be aware many TS restaurants are not the same dining experience they use to be and it has nothing to do with guest but the changes made by Disney and it's subcontractors.

I say this all the time, but my opinion is LeCellier's signature dish (mushroom filet mignon) is what makes it stand out. We have tried several other meals at LeCellier and we have not liked anything else nearly as much. If we could not get the mushroom filet mignon, then we would not go to LeCellier. Just our opinion.

Based on the number of threads like this recently, it seems like it's either overrated or the quality has been slipping. However, it could just be that expectations have been driven up too high. I don't know many restaurants that could live up to the hype Le Cellier gets.
