What is all the hoopla about Le Cellier on the boards lately? Is it really that "TO DIE FOR"? Am I nuts for not including it? I'm starting to get paranoid - it seems like the place to be this summer. We've never done it bc we eat at "Canadian" restuarants all the time, though likely not ones that nice. :confused3

Should I add it to my list of adrs or no? I could replace Biergarten or Akershus Dinners with it if it's really that amazing...or I guess reconfigure something else a bit.

Thanks!

I would drop Akershus in a heartbeat for Le Cellier!

LC is a reaaallly good steak restaurant. They have a cheese soup with soft pretzel breadsticks that are perfect for dipping. The ambiance is more upscale and a little "darker", they have aaaamazing steaks - perfect in every way. The side dishes are exquisite - the risotto was to die for. I love the maple creme brulee, too. The kids get the chocolate moose - which is mousse in the shape of a moose. It's just a really wonderful, high-quality place to eat. I'd look at the menus and figure out which your family would enjoy more - but I'm not a big fan of cold fish and pickled herring ;)

The Biergarten is okay - many of the meats were fatty and the apple streudel wasn't the best I've had. And I'm not a big fan of the breeding germs in buffets, myself - not to mention having to get up to get your own food. I guess if you're really into different sausages and meats, it might be more appealing. But, it was maybe a 5 on a scale of 1-10, to me.

Le Cellier was probably a 9.

Le Cellier is, IMHO, a nice relaxing, yummy, non-character dinner. It took me 7 trips before we finally found time to try it...then I booked it again for our 9th trip!

I LOVED my steak and the prezel sticks alone are worth going, YUMO!

It's not the best atmosphere; nothing special in that respect but the food is just good.

Oh and the Creme Brulee was yumo too!

The Cheese soup is THE BEST I have had anywhere, and my kids STILL talk about the pretzel bread 2 years later!

It's a MUST DO on our list of ADRs.

Funny, but you picked three places I really like but my family could do without. Le Cellier has nothing bad, but some menu items may seem not so special as you can make them yourself or have made them. I thought the cheddar cheese soup was great, but my son who loves both cheddar cheese and cheese soup thought it tasted odd, probably from the smokiness of the bacon. It does makes the soup taste smokey. Yes the breadsticks are enjoyable (if you are a bread lover which I am) and their sauces stand up to any French Restaurant. Years ago they had the all time best veggie burger which I wish they still had. I'm a meat eater so I don't see any dearth of food for me to eat and enjoy. It isn't as good for vegetarians though as several restaurants have cut back on their options as they have eliminated some fine food for more simplistic fare.

You asked "is it to die for" and my answer is: You have to go there sometime to make that decision for yourself. I love it, but if I miss it on the next trip for a different place I wasn't at this past March, I'm cool with that.

I would kick Akershus to the curb so fast, it would make your head spin. Bleeechh! I thought LeCellier was very good food, good service, in a real neat atmosphere (may have been the dim lights and lots of air conditioning) as we went last September and it was HOT. And, on top of that, they were super-accomodating because my daughter had fallen asleep in her stroller right before our reservation time. They let me bring in one of those big ole Ecpot strollers and park it next to our table. In LeCellier this is no east feat! Tables are close to begin with. The waitress configued our table so that she could nap in the stroller and still have it be out of the way so that it didn't inconvenience the other diners.

I love LeCellier!!

Wow...I'm starting to think I should drop Akershus. Ds4 is already saying he doesn't want to eat with "yukky princesses" anyway! :teeth: It sounds like 2 ts credits would easily feed the 3 of us too from the sounds of the food... I'm wavering...Anyone else? :wave2:

Beth :)

We found the filet and prime rib both to be excellent at Le Cellier. However the NY Strip left a lot to be desired ... tough and gristly.

oh My GOSH!! The STEAK!!! YUM!!!!!!
and the cheese soup!
and the pretzel bread!!!
My mouth is watering and I can't wait to go back!!!!

The atmosphere is nice too, but OH THE STEAK! :thumbsup2

Le Cellier is a good steak restaurant for the price. We had better steak at Jiko and Flying Fish last trip - but paid more for each steak. The cheddar cheese soup is good, its a beer cheese soup - I've had as good and better locally (but I'm ten minutes from the Wisconsin border, where beer and cheese are two of the four food groups). The food at Le Cellier is mostly comfort food - i.e. Canadian food isn't really any different from food you'll find in the Northwest, NorthEast or Upper Midwest (Southern food with its fried okra is a different class of cuisine, but you can find really good steak all the way down in Texas), and I think therefore it is very appealing to a lot of people who are a little scared of Norweigian food and just want a meat and potatos meal. They do have my favorite kids dessert - the Chocolate Moose.

It isn't really that amazing. Its a good steak for the price. If you expect amazing, you will likely be disappointed. (And stick to the steak and the salmon, if you branch out on the menu, you risk disappointment).

We enjoy eating there, but honestly, we can eat steak pretty much anywhere. We can't dine with Princesses (Akershus) or have German food anywhere (although, living in Minnesota, we can get German food, its just a little further out of the way). Its been a stop for us the last two trips, but next trip I'll plan an alternate and if I don't get the Le Cellier reservation, I won't be upset.

I have heard only nice things about Le Cellier, and my family and I will be eating there for the first time come August. I can't wait!!

There are more than the beer and cheese group ?????? :earsboy: (from Wisconsin here) but I will agree the cheese soup is great with the breadsticks. And we do enjoy the food, I don't think I would say it is the best food in all of WDW but it is very good and the nice cool dark dining area is wonderful on a hot summer day! It is one place we do try to hit whenever we visit Epcot

We really wanted to eat at LeCellier again on our upcomiing trip this month and it is completetly booked. Nothing available for lunch or dinner for the 10 days we are there. Very Disappointing

We just got back on Monday from an 8 day stay on the dining plan. LeCellier was a unanimous choice (2 adults and 2 teens) as the best restaurant of the trip. (Others were Biergarten, Mama Melrose, Coral Reef, Kona Cafe, 1900 Park Faire, Liberty Tree, and Concourse).

We had been to LeCellier several times in past years, and were concerned that all the hype probably meant the food and service had gone downhill, but couldn't have been happier. This is a very good restaurant.

Our family really enjoys Le Cellier. We eat there every trip. The maple creme brulee really is good. We have found the steaks to very good too. Have you looked over the menus for each restaurant yet? Everyone's personal tastes differ, so that would be my suggestion. You can see the menus at http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menus.htm

Have a great trip.

I'm probably not too qualified to give my input since I ate there last in 1998! It was pretty good. Being of Swedish heritage I really like Askerhus, but it was much nicer (more relaxing) before they went Princess for all three meals.

I've been to Canada several times and have to say the food up there is far better then what we normally eat here. I would say that the Keg might have better food then LC. :thumbsup2

We ate there last Fall and I gave the place a thumbs down. Food was decent but I could get the same or better for the same price at home. I would have been in a better frame of mind about the place except that we were seated way past our reservation time (and we got there early) and our kid was hungry and tired. Service was slow. It was also the only place they served us food which had an ingredient my kid was allergic to (eggs), despite the allergy being on our reservation and us telling them about it.

I also didn't really like the "Canada is exotic" shtick. I grew up in a border state and have been there many, many times, and to me Canada is less exotic than Oklahoma.

My wife and I are in agreement, next time we'll skip Le Cellier.

Le Cellier was hands down our fave restaurant last year during free dining! We liked it so much hubby and I are eating their twice this time. I mean it is free...mmmmm NY Strip Steak!

We're doing it this Oct. for the first time as well, and really looking forward to it.
