I'm always looking for something new to eat when we go to the World. I've been hearing a lot about School Bread. What is it exactly?:confused3 Is it sweet, chewy? Any pics would be greatly appreciated!

It's in Norway in the bakery... it's a big soft bread with some custard in the middle. It's nice, some people swear by it -- I wouldn't go that far, but if you haven't had it, it's tasty and worth a try.

We tried it the last time we went on vacation. OMG it was yummy. It is definitely on my list of things to eat this year.:thumbsup2

Is it like a custard filled donut? That's what it looks like to me...:confused3

We're interested in it, but wonder if it tastes just like a donut...anyone?

I had school bread for the first time on my last trip, my friend and I shared one. I had no idea what to expect, I only knew a lot of DISer's love it. :)

It was SOOOOO good!!! We both loved it. And I cannot wait to get it again!

I describe it as a soft bread roll that has a slight sweetness to it. It is filled with a creamy filling, and it's coated with shredded coconut.

I don't think it tastes like a donut and I don't think the filling is as custardy, as custard. If that makes sense. lol It's more like a light pudding maybe??

It was really light and I felt like I could eat two of them by myself and not be "sweeted out" as I often am with other desserts.

To me it is like a slightly sweet roll filled with a not too sweet and very creamy custard covered with a confectioner's sugar icing and fresh coconut...it is to die for

Oh my gosh, those pictures brought tears to my eyes!!! We LOVE school bread and can't wait to have it again in August! It is sooo light and yummy! We actually have discussions about how good it is throughout the year and I'm not even a sweet tooth! Definitely try it!:thumbsup2

The best thing about it is that it's not overwhelmingly sweet, so you get to actually taste the flavors! DW and I definitely appreciated that when we tried it last December. Plus, the coconut is goooood, as always. :)

I was sold on eating the School Bread until someone mentioned coconut! I hate coconut! It's like eating sweet hay!

That bread looks like heaven....We have to try this next time we visit Epcot....Thanks for posting this:flower3:

And what's wrong with that? I defy you to find a single horse who wouldn't like to eat sweet hay. :snooty:

I HAD to try it on my last trip because of the raves on this board. I have to say I did not care for it. Nothing special for me.:confused3 That being said, I would still tell you to try it just in case you love it.

Good advice! We tried a Dole Whip, and thoguht it was OK, but nothing special. But then we tried School Bread, and really enjoyed it. Good thing we didn't immediately think that anything that "everyone" loves has to be over-rated. It's just all down to individual tastes. :hippie:

I'm talking about the texture of hay! I don't like flaky food! I just hate coconut! The horses can have it!:headache:

I also was a person that HAD to try school bread and wasn't impressed. Fortunately it's not very expensive, because I took a couple of bites and threw it away! :rotfl:

i love school bread!

well - more specifically, i love the custard inside the school bread - the doughnut/bread part itself i throw out - the coconut icing is ok....

Thanks for the pics...we will be trying it, but I have a silly question. Is school bread really Norwegian? I tried a history of search and nothing. My DH wants to know b/c he doesn't think it is...just trying to prove him wrong :rolleyes1
