What is replacing Yamabuki?

According to the Mouseforless website, the rumor (emphasis on rumor lol) is that it will be replaced with a more affordable Mexican restaurant.

We'll see! I guess Yamabuki was a leftover from when PPH was the non Disney owned Pan Pacific Hotel that had a large number of Japanese businessmen as clientale. Now that its a Disney owned, mostly family, hotel, a more affordable Mexian restaurant would make sense.

Boo. I really miss their sushi. It was nearly always empty every time we went there, so we figured it wouldn't be there long. Too bad.

I won't miss it either, since we don't eat Sushi. I agree that a mexican restuarant makes more sense. The resort could use another one too. :)

I think Disney should smarten up and realize they have MORE than enough Mexican restaurants. We could do with a little more sushi in our lives!

Just a thought for something totally different...How about something a little more Californian like a vegetarian restaurant. It seems that every other restaurant type is covered on the resort.

Why Mexican? Doesn't really seem to fit in with the pier/boardwalk image in my opinion.

I'm still mourning the loss of Yamabuki. I had just recently discovered it and now it's gone. :sad1:

Yamabuki will definitely be missed. They were so much more than sushi.Although, my husband did enjoy the sushi. We also enjoyed the Teriyaki chicken and many other dishes. I think that the Mexican restaurant idea is not compatible with the theme of the hotel.

As a local, I will say a Mexican place is not a good idea. We have tons of excellent mom & pop places all over So Cal and they are cheap. And I think people from other areas don't appreciate or like too much what we call "Mexcian" here. I'm not sure what would be good there - I, too, loved Yamabuki, although it was overpriced. But what Disney restaruant isn't? I hope they fill the spot soon.:goodvibes

What would be nice something along the lines of the old tahitian terrace that was in DL many years ago... I loved that place as a kid...and I'm sure I'de love it more as an adult! It would fit with the hotel's theme also.

That's an awesome idea!

There is a Mexican restaurant in DTD and in DL park. It would be really silly to add another!

Pleeeeeeeeease not another Mexican restaurant!! As a CA native, I'm up to my eyeballs in Mexican restaurants. I love the food, but it would be nice to see something different.

I love the Tahitian Terrace idea! Sort of a Polynesian RFC (without the animals) ;)

I was thinking along the lines of California cuisine or surf n' turf because of the beachy theme, but I LOVE the idea of a Tahitian Terrace theme.

Back in the 70's there were places you could go to enjoy luau's, etc., but I can't find any anymore. I think having a Tahitian themed restaurant with shows on the weekends or during the holiday season would be popular.

Mmmmm, surf n' turf sounds yummy!

That there is an incredible idea! I know very few people who are true carnivores, and good food is good food, even if there's no meat. It would be such a nice idea. :goodvibes

i am so bitter about this closure. Yamabuki was a must stop by place every trip. It was not just sushi they had plenty of non sushi meals that were so delish!! The lobster was fantastic and my DH said he has never had a better lobster anywhere. I also agree... if it's mexican I will not visit that place.

Not sure what i'd like to see. maybe an all day breakfast joint..since many times i dont get up early enough to get that mickey waffle
