What is RCI?

QUOTED FROM ANOTHER POST ""Under the new policy, Members who purchase from anyone other than Disney Vacation Development, Inc., on or after March 21, 2011, will not be eligible to use those Vacation Points to make reservations within the Concierge Collection, the Disney Collection or the Adventurer Collection. Those Vacation Points will instead be valid only for reservations at Disney Vacation Club resorts, as well as for RCI® exchanges, Club Cordial and Club Intrawest.""

Is there a list of those other places you can use your points? How do you know what is an RCI exchange or what is Club Cordial or Club Intrawest? And how can you tell how many DVC points those RCI places take to stay there?
(I read on some random website that staying at RCI places with your DVC points is not a very good value)

And is it against DIS rules to name the 4 main DVC resellers on here? I know of the timeshare place that has a link on this forum and someone mention Fidelity but someone else said there are 4 main DVC resellers. Can someone tell me who they are or is that a no-no because they don't sponsor the site?
Sorry for all the questions.

RCI is the timeshare exchange company that DVC has an agreement with through which you can exchange your points for timeshares located throughout the US and the world. See RCI's own site for what it is and its possible places to go https://www.rci.com/RCI/ Club Cordial and Club Intrawest are separate from the RCI agreement and you can exhange your points and go to a Club Cordial or Club Intrawest resort (there are only a small number of those resorts unlike RCI). You can also find lists and other information on the members offical site for both RCI and the Club sites and you will also find there points needed for an exchange.

I do not know what the rule is for naming the timeshare resale brokers. I do know that the Timeshare Store is a sponsor of this site and thus is entitled to some favortism when it comes to mentioning resale brokers.

When you go to the main RCI site, you'll see some 6,500 resorts worldwide claimed. However, because of the way RCI is structured, there are many dupicates and the real number of resorts is around 4,000 from what I've heard.

DVC members actually have access to only about 600 of those RCI resorts. As drusba suggested, you have to go through the DVC Members site to see which ones are accessible via DVC.

ETA: When looking at the main RCI site, it's also important to understand that DVC members do NOT have individual RCI accounts. DVC has an RCI account, and all RCI exchanges have to be done through DVC MS. That's an important distinction, because there are several significant benefits of true RCI membership that DVC members do NOT get.

There are four, with the Timeshare Store and Fidelity being two. There is another one I don't know the name of (Shontelle's company), and one other broker who is apparently banned from the DIS and their name will appear *****'d out.

I don't think there is any preference for the Timeshare Store, except from their customers. They are a longtime sponsor of the DIS DVC forums, but their main source of recommendations is their many, many happy customers. Other brokers also have their fans.

We have bought and sold (twice each) through the Timeshare Store, and strongly recommend them because of the consistent, professional service we have received over 8 years of dealings with them.

The other caveat I would offer with RCI is NOT to consider RCI exchanges -- or any other "perk" of DVC ownership -- in your purchase decision.

Evaluate DVC for your use of points at DVC resorts only. There are some other benefits (most of debatable value anyway), but those can disappear with one swipe of the Mouse's pen. For example, currently DVC exchanges through RCI. Before that, they exchanged through Interval International (II), before that, RCI. Times change, benefits change -- and they often change without notice.

Just Google DVC resales and you'll get a list of any reselling company that sells DVC.

RCI works great for non DVC members to trade into DVC with cheap weeks with low maintenance fees. Disney did their members a great disservice when they hooked up with RCI.

For DVC members RCI is an exchange company that allows you to trade into Resorts with lower buy in costs and lower maintenance fees. In essence you give up a valuable week in exchange for a less valuable property. If you really want to travel to other timeshares rent your DVC points out and use the $$ to rent those same timeshares for a fraction of DVC's maintenance fees
