What is possibly wrong with my d90?

Hi everyone..

Just wondering if any of you may know what is wrong with my camera. I shoot in manual mode with spot metering.. but the camera doesn't seem to be reading it correctly. All of my photos have turned out blown out, no matter what settings I have it on. What gives?

Also, my GPS fell onto the top of the camera, cracking the window at the top. How much does that normally cost to have repaired? (& the blown out photo thing happened way before the cracked window).

Thanks.

It would be difficult to diagnose without seeing the photo along with the EXIF information. Could you provide that or do you have a Flickr account (or something like it) we could look at to find the info?

My first thought would be to make sure you don't have a large amount of positive exposure compensation accidentally set ... I did that once years ago and it took me weeks to figure it out. I figured the meter was toasted or something.

It's a matter of being familiar with your camera... I wonder how many people are aware a lot of the current cameras have a White Balance shift and bracket function?

If you can't figure it out then reset to factory defaults. It's the easiest way to undo anything you might have inadvertently set. Take some shots on auto in general lighting. If you still have the problem then you've ruled a bunch of things out right there.

is it happening with more than one lens ??

I bought a used 50mm 1.7 lens once and when I went to use it all photos were overexposed, I checked and discovered oil on the aperture blades, this was preventing the lens from stopping down at the moment of exposure, so no matter what I set the camera at the lens was alwasy wide open
