What is photopass?

I may be wrong here, but I don't think so...Photopass is a plastic card that you can get from one of the photographers that work at WDW. (You know, like the ones that hang out in front of the castle to take your picture?) When they take the picture, they can scan the card and the picture will be on it. You can take the photopass to one of the picture shops and view your pics and buy them. You can also use the photopass to view the pictures online, too, and buy them after you're home. We did this on our last trip. We bought a few pics when we got home. It was really easy to order them online.

you did a good job explaining it, but i just want to add a couple things. As of 2 weeks ago, you can purchase your pictures seperately (like 12-15 bucks EACH for a 5 by 7) or you can put up to 300 pictures on to a cd and buy that for 106$ (price includes tax). The cd option is what 90% of people that get the pictures chose to do because Disney gives you the CD with the rights to the pictures so you can bring them to your local photo developer and get them printed for what they charge with digital pictures.

It's a pretty good deal if you are wanting to get 8 or more of the pictures developed and i'd rather pay 20 cents for a 4 by 6 than 12-15 bucks for a 5 by 7!

A few little tidbits about Photopass for the newbies:

All of the PP photographers carry a supply of cards. However, you can put multiple pics on a card, so you don't need to get a new card each time you get a pic taken - once you have one, just hand it to the photographer each time you get a pic.

When you get home and log into your PP account (seting up an account is free), you enter the serial number of your card, and all the pics associated with that card will be added to your account. But you can add multiple cards to your account, so while you're at WDW, have each member of your family get their own card, and have them all swiped at each pic. This gives you redundancy in case someone loses a card, but also allows you to get individual pics if you split up in the parks. You can add the whole families pics to one account.

An account can have multiple cards - but a card can be added to multiple accounts, too. So if you want to share your WDW pics with Aunt Edna, and she already has a PP account, all you need to do is tell her the serial numbers of any cards you want to share with her.

Word on the Street (Main Street USA, that is) is that Disney is currently working to add ride photos to the PP system. At the moment they are experimenting with Test Track, but eventually they will have all ride photos accessible by the PP system.

Nope, absolutely nothing.

Photopass is the modern equivalent of those photographers who used to roam the beachs in places like Ocean City MD and Atlantic City - they take your pic for free, then give you a claim check (on the beach it was a slip of paper, with Photopass it's the PP card). They only make money when you actually buy the pics.

Photopass works better, because it allows you to buy the pics for up to 30 days after you get home, instead of being forced to decide by the end of the day or the end of the week.

The Photopass CD is a good bargain if you buy a lot of those in-park photos, because you get all of your pics from the whole vacation on one CD for $99. If you are the type who would have bought 8 or 10 prints (at $12 a pop) anyway, then the cost of the Photopass CD winds up breaking even, but you also get the hi-res image files to email to family, post on the boards, or add to your Christmas cards this year.
