What is on a FRESH CM Lanyard?

I will be spending 10 days at WDW in June, and my family is just starting to buy pins to trade. What can I expect to find on a cast member lanyard at the beginning of the day, before the 'professional traders' get to them? How many CM exclusives or limited editions does each carry (in general)?

Some of our favorite topics are:

Nightmare Before Christmas
Jessica Rabbit
Star Wars
Pirates pirate:
Epcot 'nations' or 'mickey flags'
Mission: Space
Haunted Mansion
Other rides and attractions

Is there much chance of trading for these from CM lanyards?

Is there any reason not to stock up on EuroDisney pins on ebay to trade?

Thank you for any insight!

You can trade ANY Disney pin with a CM, so yes, if you can acquire pins at a discount price then go for it. I can buy them at the outlet store here in Las Vegas, and trade when we go to DL. When the ESPN Zone opened here a few years ago, DH bought several of their pins to use as traders when we went to DL. Perfectly legal!

The coolest pins I have seen CMs trade are AP exclusive pins. Once I traded a CM for the "cigar Indian" pin, which was an DL AP exclusive pin; it was at CA very early on a Saturday morning and we entered the park through the Paradise Pier gate, so we were the first guest who traded with her.

I've seen everything on CM lanyards. I know I've seen Jedi Micky pins on DL CM lanyards. Good luck!!

I live near WDW and go pin trading every week. Personally, I don't trade the EuroDisney or other types of pins nobody wants. For just a little bit more, you can get great lots without the junk pins nobody wants. I think the fact that no one will want the EuroDisney pins is reason enough not to trade them.

I'm not sure that I understand what you mean. I am only going to trade with CM's, and they are only concerned with the pins being genuine, right? Its not like the pins are for the CM's personal collection. Aren't the pins that "nobody wants" removed from the cast lanyards each night and replaced with 'regular' pins? My question is whether or not all of the CM's will accept the EuroDisney pins. EuroDisney pins are available on eBay for $1.60 each in bulk lots of 50 or 100, while other bulk pins (often non-tradeable scrappers) usually cost in the $2 - $3 range.

Isn't your suggestion kind of like saying that when you a purchase at a WDW shop, you should pay in old-time silver certificates and indian head pennies, because the people who get them later in change will be happier? Why should I increase my expenses for pin trading by 50% to 100% if, indeed, the EuroDisney pins are accepted by all CM's? I only have 10 days at WDW this year, and won't be back until at least 2009. I am not really that concerned about putting -=good=- pins on the CM lanyards for the professional traders to puff up THEIR collections or eBay listings. I guess if EuroDisney pins are 'good enough' for the CM's to receive, they are 'good enough' for me to trade off, saving money in the process. It isn't like trading them is 'cheating', is it?

Looking at all of the scrapper CM lanyard pins being sold on eBay (as described on this board) for more money, I would think that the EuroDisney pins would be preferred by the CM's.

Do you trade with the CM's or the general public? I can understand needing a 'higher class' of pin for person-person or advanced trades, but isn't the outcome of a trade with a CM exactly the same regardless of the 'value' or 'desirability' of the pin you trade? Do you personally really spend more for pins to trade on a weekly basis to make the CM's following traders (those who aren't even trading with you) more happy? I don't think that I can afford to be that altruistic on this trip!

Thanks for the info! We are all looking forward to some fun trades!

A lot of the CM lanyards are not refreshed every night so if you put junk on then that's what you will find.

Well, I'm not really interested in receiving back ANY pins that I trade away, so they will ALL be junk to me if they remain on the CM lanyards. With all of the 'full-time' traders out there, I would think every CM lanyard would be full of junk within a few hours of being put 'on stage', and remain that way until refreshed. If this refreshing is not done daily, then what is the point in doing it at all?

Some of the CMs do refresh the lanyards regularly, but most don't. So if you trade them a junk pin, it will end up staying on the lanyard and people who come after you won't want it.

In the end, it's your call what you want to trade. Personally, I like to give the CMs pins that people will want to trade for because I hate seeing all the lanyards filled with junk pins. The CMs really appreciate getting nice pins too. I've heard plenty of CMs complain about people filling lanyards with junk, and I've seen them hide lanyards from people they know always dump off undesirable pins.

For me, I think it's worth the extra 25 cents or so to have nice pins to trade. But that's just me, I'm old fashioned and like to treat people the way I would like to be treated.

BTW, I'm not a professional trader, we just live nearby and trade for fun.

It would be worth it to me to spend an extra 25 cents or so for decent pins as well - do you have any suggestions on any reputable online sources under $2 each for better pins? I don't live anywere near any type of Disney outlet center, so that's out, & will only have Disney transportation once on property.

There are many CMs that will "refresh" their lanyards as little as possible. These CMs don't really like/care about the pin trading so they are not as inclined to "refresh" their lanyards. Sometimes they think that if they don't "refresh" and stick with the pins no one wants, no one will want to trade with them. There is a pin replenishment (sp) area for CMs but it is optional to go there. Required "refreshes" are only once in a blue moon, because managers would rather have their CMs doing something else.

Personally, I don't care what you trade with me, as long as it's in good condition. I really really hate it when people trade a damaged or stratched pin, I usually decline those because the rules say the pins have to be in good condition. I personally try to "refresh" my lanyard at least twice a day, depending on my work location, but that's because I think pin trading is fun and a good way to interact with the guests.

The above comments do not reflect the opinions or views of the Walt Disney World company. The comments only reflect the opinions of one CM.:goodvibes

You sound like a real asset to WDW as both an employee and as an ambassador of good-will. If you don't mind my asking, what section of the 'Magic Kingdom' do you work in?

PrincessCastMember has if fairly correct. In our area, the "refresher room" is in a designated place, and it is not close by to my work location. If we are not busy or shorthanded, someone can run over to get some new pins - no more than 6 I beleive.

I personally refresh my pins every once and awhile. Translation: every few weeks (I only work 2 days per week). If this place was on the way to the parking lot, i might go on my own time, but it's not. I work 7 days per week, so what little non-job time I have is precious to me. :)

I like pins (I have many of my own) and I like trading. Just kindly don't touch my person, please. :)

rugrats2001, your best bets for pin trading are probably at the pin locations throughout the property. I would bet that they get refresher pins alot more often than most other places. A friend of mine who is really into pins gave me some to trade for her when I went to DL last august. she was loking for some specific ones, so I went to the pin places early in the day a couple of times and found what she was looking for. Best of luck and enjoy your trip!

I agree.
I love to trade and personally I don't like the Euro ones. I wouldn't trade for them so I don't buy them.
I'd rather spend the extra dollar and buy a cast lanyard pin that someone else might get excited to trade for, but one that doesn't appeal to me, than buy Euro's that no one will want.

Most of the Euro pins available on ebay at that lo of a price are out and out counterfeits.

Totally agree, just thought I'd let you know.:goodvibes

Personally, I don't care wether the CM likes the trade or not, why should I care? As long if its a valid trade, I have no reason to care if the CM "likes the pin". And as for other traders who trade off CM lanyard, I could care less what they think too! Heck if its cheaper, to buy junk pins, I will buy them. Why should I spend more money to satisfy others?
This is just my opinion, not trying to be rude. GOOD VIBES :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

In answer to the original question, I was at WDW in December and again in April and I saw only two Star Wars pins. My DGS9 loves Star Wars and I wanted to trade for some for him. I already had the one but I was able to get him a Mickey Jedi though. Very cute. My DGD3 loves Lion King. I traded for a Simba pin that was a Sedesma (which I didn't know until I already made the trade) but she loves Lion King so much, that it didn't matter that it wasn't an "official" Disney pin.
