Ok, all set to stay at POR, and then I hear about something called Jersey week, and it sounds not so good??? People say"Never again will I go during Jersey week", well I am worried, I booked right in the middle of it, I think. We are Nov 6-12.
So what is it and how bad is it?

Jersey week is the week of NJEA convention. This year the convention is November 6,7,8. Alot of schools in NJ also have election day (11/4) off too, so that give the kiddoes a two-day school week.

I've never been to DW that week so someone else would have to answer the crowded questions, but at least you know where the term comes from.

I've never been either.

There are teacher conventions in NJ, so the kids have off, which means a lot of NJ people go to Disney. I looked at the crowd levels and they *do* spike up a bit that week. Sorry!

I have been! It is like a huge reunion for the ENTIRE state of New Jersey in Orlando! Most everybody is in a great mood, having fun, smiling and laughing the entire time! The only people not having fun are the moms, with 3 or more kids who are pushing the strollers!!! (Why is that??? The moms always seem to be the ones pushing the strollers!!! :confused3 )
Even though it is not reported in touring books, this week DOES have an increase in crowd levels and wait times!

I would not avoid this week though...you will have a great time!

I've been going to WDW during Jersey Week for the past 4 years and while the crowds are a little higher than Sept. and Oct., it's really not that bad. Just utilize Fastpass and you'll be fine. The best part, the weather is absolutely perfect that time of year.:)

This is the week each year that people from all over the country send their extra money to people who live in NJ. If you don't have the name and address of a New Jerseyan yet, just let me know!

Crowds are higher. Everyone is from Jersey! Honestly, if you haven't been in Nov. before when it was really slow, Jersey Week won't bother you at all.

"Jersey Week" also usually coincides with Veteran's Day, which many kids from all over have a long 3-day weekend. Anytime there is a national holiday with days off from school, Disney will be busier. I always thought the crowds were more from the holiday than Jerseyans filling up every last ride and every last restaurant. So the Fri-Sat-Sun (Nov 7-9) is definitely busier than the days surrounding it. Nowadays, it's not just Jerseyans filling the parks and making that week busy, but we get blamed for all of it!

When my kids were younger and in school we went during Jersey week twice. The crowds were totally manageable but I do think more parents are willing to take their kids out of school for additional days around the convention days then in past years.

Planning to go the middle of the week following NJ Teachers Convention in 2009. Hoping my sister and I are heading south while our fellow New Jerseyans are mostly headed north!

:lmao: Good one!
Hey, here I am in MO, my kids always have off around this time of year for teacher meetings, but we don't get recognized as having Missouri week :confused3
And yes.....we are going! We arrive the week before tho, and leave November 4th.

It's terrible, change your plans, you won't want to be there.:rolleyes1 :upsidedow

Actually is usually is kind of busy, but this year I am seeing more availability at the resorts (Budget and Moderates), and some lower airfare out there then in past years. Some years there are very few discounts for this time, but this year the general public was offered a good deal. Allegiant out of Allentown, Pa. is still under $100 each way for my dates. Of course when I bought the tickets I paid quite a bit more.
Anyway, relax, it will be fine, we don't bite (to often), you will be OK. Maybe we will see you there.

Let me know if you need my address too :)

Seriously, remember, not ALL of NJ goes to Disney this week! My kids attend a Catholic school, and do not have any days off this week. It is only public schools that are off, so take all the private schools out of the equation. And, like I said, not everyone goes! I will say, the public schools around me are closed the ENTIRE week, not just Tues (election day) and Th/Fr.

I think you will be fine! Enjoy your vacation!

My son goes to Catholic school and they have 3 days off that week Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Ok, thank you all... we are from the U P of Michigan, we deal with tourists all the time. So we get to meet people from new Jersey that love Disney as much as we do...not a problem. I really had no idea what it was, thanks for the knowledge!!

We are not from Jersey but have been to WDW twice during Jersey Week and going back again this yr. We have never found it to be a problem, and the weather is prefect for us, it is the only time of yr we want to go. :goodvibes

In our neck of the woods in NJ, they float Columbus Day and Veterans Day so the kids have the entire week off!!!!! We have been to WDW many times during Jersey Week and it really isn't too crowded - the fun thing is running into other people from NJ.

Hey I could care less where people are from as long as I'm in Disney. But I won't be there during Jersey week Some of do have to work lol.
Have fun New Jersey :thumbsup2

When I did my first trip in the mid 90's we did Jersey week (who knew it had a name back then?) It was DEAD! Awesome! Worked out great for everyone...I was out of school and my mom (a teacher) was off work.

Now Dfi and I are heading back to Disney this November for our honeymoon. Our wedding is November 1st. I decided to postpone our honeymoon until the 11th because frankly I don't want to deal with it now.

Fast forward a few years...I know I'll be taking my kids for their first trip during Jersey week. :rotfl: Maybe by then everyone here will be sick of Disney and it will be a dead time again (a girl can dream right?)
