I don't get it. They seem to be some type of overpriced plastic decoration. Have they got a purpose?

I have found myself wondering the same EXACT thing...sure they kinda cute...I guess...but...:confused3

There just like the pins, something disney thinks you should spend your money on

Kidrobot is very popular and essentially these are an offshoot to appeal to a different audience. The vinylmation is fairly popular to collect and I think some of them are very cool. They are neat collectors items. :)

Back away from the vinylmation...... please! My 11 year old got into them on our July trip. He enjoyed the surprise of not knowing what you will get and then the fun in checking stores for trades. The problem is that you will never be satisfied and will always want more. His only souvenirs from our trip were vinylmation..... nothing else.

BINGO! And I thought they were tacky at first, but now they have some neat ones....which are un-available now....:headache::rolleyes1

I like them. They are the same concept as the Kidrobot figures Rupert B Puppenstein mentioned, and those (as well as other figures inspired by them) have been very popular for quite a while. I enjoy seeing how all the designers make the same figure look so different with all their different designs. I also really enjoy the wide variety of things that the figures are based on - some of them are fairly obscure and it's hard (or even impossible, in some cases) to find any other merchandise based on those things. I don't see them as any different than any other collectibles like pins, Precious Moments or Hummel figurines, etc. Some people will find them appealing and others won't see the point. They are fairly inexpensive and I think they are fun souveniers, plus I've always had a thing for grab bags so I expecially enjoy the "blind box" aspect of most of the figures.

I don't get them either. DS loves them. He's allowed to spend his disney dollars on anything he wants if stuff that we think is overpriced and junk. He only gets $15 per day. He would spend all his money on vinylmations. We put our foot down and limited him to one.

I have to agree with the PP who said that they were just like the pins...

Not my cup of tea but I have seen some really neat ones that people made.

ITA. I wasn't sure about them at first but once I was in the parks and got a better look at them, I could see their potential. DH and I love collecting Disney stuff, he loves pins and I love vinylmation.

We used one as the guest book at our recent Disney wedding.

What a fun guestbook!

The thing I don't get about vinylmation is how you carry them around to trade in the park. Pins are super easy to trade because you can just wear those. These would require carrying a bag of some sort, wouldn't they, if you want to trade them? That doesn't seem to be very trade-friendly IMHO. I don't need something extra to carry to the parks every day.

That said, I imagine we'll buy a couple on our next trip as some of them are cute and it would be a new-to-us souvenir. I don't think any of us will be smitten enough with the figures to buy more than a couple each.

These are just like the Pokemon cards several years ago. My DS would beg for us to buy the cards that came in packs so you could not see what you were getting. Hate to think how much we spent on those.

I saw the vinylmation at WDW during our trip last month. I thought they were cute, but a little pricey IMO.
