I've checked Orbitz, Continental and Southwest and the prices are obnoxious this year!!!

Any thoughts???? They already charging for higher gas prices?????

I give.

I'd like to know what's up with that?
Gas is not as high as its been in the past,so what's up?

I think they're just gouging us this year.

I'm thinking of going at the end of August instead of June... At least I can get value rates then.

Even my rental car is $30 more than when I go in Sept.

I think the prices were probably too low before, most airlines were losing money. If they all raise their prices, then they are at a level where they can make money.

They aren't gouging you. They are trying to make money. Most of the airfares I see people wanting on the DIS are so low that the airlines are LOSING money every time you get on the plane. Now I somehow doubt the "common sense" of not selling seats for less then it costs to fly you will continue so I expect you will see some sales, but if the airlines want to get out of the bankruptcy cycle they have to start making money at some point.

Well, we paid $305 for our February flights (booked 10 months in advance) and $285 for our April flights (booked 2 months in advance) and only $200 for our direct August flights (booked 6 months in advance). So I'm seeing a much better rate for August. February is on Delta, and April and August are on AirTran. Only our August flights are direct too.

It's a little early to book summer rental cars as the coupons and specials on the websites expire prior to the summer season beginning. There aren't any great rates out there yet for cars, but they will get better in a couple of months. We are waiting.

You'll probably see sales.

The Southwest fares are still not that bad from DC ($73 each way before fees) but I will expect that they'll go down a bit due to sales. I bought my March flight at $59 each way. I plan to switch the flights over and get the credit if they do go down.

We travel every summer and based on my past experiences the prices tend to come down for July and August in late March/early April. The only reaon I've booked my air for August already is that I got SW when the fares opened for $69/each way. If you are renting a car anyway check into flying into Tampa instead of Orlando. We did that one year and saved quite a bit.

Jet Blue, $200 n/s r/t. I'm happy w that. I don't like to wait and gamble w SW. They are a good airline, flow many times w them, just not gonna do the wait.

I'm changing my trip to the end of August... The airfare is already $150 less and it's value season and dare I hope??? Free Dining????

Well, I can hope and pray can't I?

The gas you put in your car and Avjet fuel are two different things. Prices at PHL for Avjet fuel are almost $6 per gallon. Southwest had prepaid for their jet fuel for many months/years in advance so they got a great rate and passed it on to the consumer. Those contracts are now over and they have to pay the going rate.

While I'm not happy that my price to start is $80 higher then the past few years, I understand why. I also hope I can catch a sale on Southwest before we depart in July.

We're going to Orlando in mid August and will patiently wait a few months to see what Southwest offers. I don't like having Southwest credits if I can help it, so we didn't book at the opening prices which for CT (Bradley airport) weren't great to start.

We never get good fares here, must drive a few hours to a "major" airport to get them. However, got a great rate last week from ABE on Allegiant into Sanford/Orlando..$79 each way for four of us in July:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
Hey zurgswife...we do the JDRF walk in Philly every fall..younger son is T1..

I think they are doing what they can to see what they can charge for the summer and then I think that rates will come down along the way. They can't do it and expect people to just do a pick up trip or whatever with rates like that.

Hey there...we did the Philly walk this past fall. It was a fun experience but I think next year we will be going back to the Tyler Park walk. The smaller walk seemed to have a few more perks. It is held the same day and put on by the same JDRF office. It was so cold this year....

Are you going to the awards and appreciation reception in 2 weeks?

It continues to amaze me that people will pay Disney prices and never complain. But if an airline raises rates, you think the world just ended.;)

actually I have a budget that I work from - both for Disney and the rest and I usually know a range for what to pay for flights and when it goes haywire...I get concerned. Sort of like when gas prices go sky high the day before a hurricane.

I understand that fuel costs are higher but like you we are flying out of PHL. The prices are much higher than last year. What I don't understand is why PHL is $85 higher than Baltimore (normally only around $20 higher). If it is just fuel cost alone I don't see why went up a much greater percent than Baltimore??
