What is GTY?

This means "guarantee" or "guaranteed." It means that you do not have a specific room assigned, but are guaranteed to get a room of at least that category (or maybe higher).

'Bump' is when someone wants to move a thread up to the "front of the list" - or first page - so that it can be paid attention to & hopefully get some replies.

The person just types in 'bump' so that they are posting a reply (of sorts) & the thread moves up the line.

I booked with DCL and didn't ask for a specific room, only asked for a category 9. When I check my reservation on the DCL website, I have a room assigned (2012). Is this still a GTY reservation?

I believe if your room number is assigned, that's the room you will be in and you won't be upgraded.
If they don't assign you a room number - just a "guaranteed" category - then the possibility to upgrade is there.

Again, this is how I understand it.
If I'm wrong, or if someone HAS been upgraded with an assigned cabin number, I'd love to hear about it....

This past January, we had three rooms booked in Cat 11 with all 3 assigned room numbers. When we got to the ship, all of us were bumped up to Cat 8!!!!

We got a specific cabin number the minute we booked and that was 11 months before the cruise. One week before the cruise Disney called our TA and said we have been upgraded to another cabin, and to make sure to put THAT cabin number on our luggage tags.

Meeshe.....there really is no set rhyme or reason to upgrades....best things to do is book a cabin or category you are happy with....do not book a lower category or a GTY just to get a chance to be upgraded....you will be very unhappy if your hopes are set and it does not happen.

Is there a reason you are unhappy about your cabin number or category? 2012 is under the piano lounge area and should not really have noise problem.

Did you ask for a GTY reservation when you called DCL? I just don't understand why you book a category 9 if that is not what you wanted.

How do you check to see if they assigned you a cabin? I had booked a particular cabin, but added a fourth person so it changed to GTY. I am curious to see if I have been assigned anything yet.

tiggerbaby....if you booked directly with DCL your ressie will show up online at their website...just look for the reservations section.

If a cabin number has been assigned to you already it will show on your ressie.

If you booked with anyone other than DCL directly then you would have to call them and check if you were assigned a cabin yet.

Note....about 10 days or so before you sail your online ressie at DCL will no longer be available to view...they take them off the website.

mmouse37, a catagory 9 is what I want....however, I did not book a specific stateroom. DLC has assigned us stateroom 2012. I am happy with what we have.....Actually I am very happy to be on a Disney Cruise. An upgrade would be an additional "Magical" bonus.

meshee....I glad you feel that way...many people book a lower category hoping to get upgraded and then are disappointed if the upgrade does not happen.

We have stayed in just about all the categories except Cats. 1, 2, & 3 as well as most all the decks. Our favorites are decks 1 and 2. You can call DCL and ask if there is another Cat 9 cabin in a different location or can even ask that you stay on a GTY status...they may do that.
