Hi everyone! :wave2:
I just found this great chicken recipe that I'm going to try next week called Valley Chicken. It calls for 1/2 tsp. greek seasoning. What exactly is this? Will I be able to find it in my regular grocery store?
TIA!
Thanks for sharing all the great recipes!

Greek Seasoning
Store herb containers in a dark, cool, dry place up to six months.

1 tsp salt
2 tsp dried oregano
1½ tsp onion powder
1½ tsp garlic powder
1 tsp cornstarch
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp beef bouillon granules
1 tsp dried parsley
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg

Yield: ¼ cup

You're welcome! I didn't know before you asked, but I've found more interesting recipes by Googling a spice mix someone else has asked about. ;) Would you care to share yours?

Why of course! How rude of me! I'll let ya'll know how it comes out thanks to your greek seasoning blend!
Valley Chicken
1 lb. chicken breast
2 Tbs soy sauce
2 Tbs italian salad dressing
6 Tbs ketchup
1/2 tsp dill weed
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp greek seasoning
1/2 cup white wine
2 Tbs cooking oil
2 Tbs butter

In a bowl, mix together all ingredients except the chicken, oil and butter. Set aside. In a skillet, melt the butter and oil and brown the chicken on both sides. Once brown, cover skillet and cook 10 min. Drain pan of all fat and oil. Pour the set aside mixture over the chicken, bring back up to a simmer and let it simmer 10 more minutes until the chicken is no longer pink and the juices run clear.

Hmm - that sounds good! But I never would have thought about combining ketchup and cinnamon or nutmeg which are in the greek seasoning blend. :scratchin: Thanks for sharing! And please do let us know how it turns out. teeth:

I suppose that the Italian dressing is an oil & vinegar type, not creamy? Or didn't it specify?

 hmmmmmm........
that is a good point about the dressing. I assume it was for the oil one, not the creamy one although the recipe did not specify. I'll try it that way and let you know. The combination of flavors sounds yummy!

One of my daughter's friends from high school is Greek. She had a BBQ for her friends last week and this guy brought a Greek Salad that was out of this world! When I asked him what was in it, he mentioned something called "Cavender's". I asked him what it was and he told me it's a Greek seasoning, so of course, I bought some my next trip to Publix It comes in a little yellow cannister and says "an ancient Greek formula".

The ingredients are: salt, black pepper, corn starch, garlic, msg, oregano, flavor base seasoning (hydrolized corn soy protein, sugar, onion powder, spice extractives) parsley and five other spices. Interesting that they don't have to name those "other spices"! They must be in very small quantities.

Anyhow, Cavender's is made by S-C Seasoning Co, Inc. P.O. Box1296, Harrison, Arkansas 72601.

I think I'm gonna make a nice Greek salad this weekend! ;)

What a great idea to use it in a salad! I forgot all about that! It's good to know if I'm feeling lazy and don't want to make my own seasoning, I can get it at Publix. Please let me know how your salad turns out. This sounds really good with some homemade pizza!

I've used Cavender's for years. It's just a great all around seasoning.

I also love the Greek seasoning from Penzey's Spices which you can buy online. It makes a great salad dressing.

I acquired a blue shaker container of Cavender's salt-free all purpose Greek seasoning today while visiting friends. The blue is salt-free. My friend's FIL brought several back after having toured the plant in Harrison, Arkansas where his daughter lives. I'm looking forward to trying it.

Just wanted to check back in and say the Valley Chicken was really good! With the cinnamon, it kind of tasted like something from Boma. The mix of flavors was really yummy- I would double the sauce if serving over rice or noodles or potatoes. Next time, I'll leave out the cinnamon though, to see how it changes it. I used the greek seasoning blend Piratesmate posted and the whole meal was 4 stars!!!!
(I also used the oil kind of italian dressing, not the creamy)
