I just called today to book either a two or one bedroom for Dec 1-4 and was shocked at how many resorts are full. I ended up booking AKV Savanah View, so by no stretch of the imagination am I disappointed but I didn't expect so many resorts to be booked solid.

Waitlisted for Boardwalk.

That time of year is popular with DVC members. Low points, Christmas decorations & shows.

the whole period from thanksgiving to new year's is peak season for DVC bookings. early december included - the decorations are up and pt costs are down. many owners book at 11 months out to make sure they get what they want.

there have been reports of some availability at the largest resorts (OKW, SSR and AKV) but park peak season and DVC booking peak season aren't always the same.

edited to add: don't be afraid to ride the waitlist, though. sometimes it will work out.

Lots going on early in December, it gets more and more crowded each year.

Frankly, I'm surprised that you were surprised. I thought everyone knew the first week in Dec is really tough to get.

Why are you suprised? Is this something everyone should know?

What makes the first week as oppose to the second week such high demand?

If there was a concrete reason like food & wine well them maybe I wouldn't find it so shocking.

Actually, there is so much information on these boards about the necessity of booking early December at the 11 month booking window, that most on here would assume everyone knows that or has at least heard of it.

I think the first two weeks of December are as difficult to get as holiday times if not more difficult.

It seems like every year at this time there is a post like yours--it's probably not common knowledge that this is a very popular time until someone goes to make a booking...

I would add generally nice weather as another reason. Someone else pointed out the taping of the Christmas parade is generally the first weekend in DEC.
In addition to the Christmas shows (Candlelight processional, Christmas around the World, MVMCP and the Osborne Family Light show) there is generally a DVC Christmas Party, too.

I would expect the second week in Dec to be equally busy. I haven't seen the date for the annual DVC condo meeting this year, but in the past it has been the first or second week of Dec.

The waitlist is a very good idea. Since some of folks book 11months at their home resort in hopes of switching at the 7months, you may see some magic happen with the WL especially since BWV is a large resort.

What were the general reasons you wanted to book at this time?

Low points...before the Yuletime madness...hopes for good weather (after 2 years of freezing maybe this year will be nicer)...maybe you're hoping kids will still be in school...all the decorations none of the holiday crowds...

If those reasons are on your list, remember, they are on everyone else's list, too!

Start looking at dining options, too, now. Those filled up last year at that time, and people were surprised at that, too.

Here is a link to the thread from last year: Dec 2010 Waitlist - Whose came through?
This might give you an idea of how some folks faired last year.

Who else is in waitlist torture? When and Where This is from 2009

You could probably start a new one for this year to share WL successes for this year. :)

I think 2009 was the first year with the new W-L rules (someone will correct me if I am wrong :) ), so I didn't look back any further than 2009 for DEC W-L successes.

Well it only took 1 day for my waitlist to come through :cheer2:

:woohoo: Awesome for you, Congrats!!!

There does seem to be some major :wizard: Pixie Dust going around as of late for WL, I hope it keeps up!!

Enjoy your Holiday Time at the Boardwalk!! :)

Congrats!

We had a hard time booking the same week in 2010. We booked about a month later than you did. Most of the resorts were full then but while I was on the phone a room opened up at AKV and it was great.

The first week of December was AWESOME. The parks were relatively dead (except for the Saturday). The weather was great. Second week of december it got cold.

If you've never been there for Christmas decorations, you will have a blast!

I think we Disboarders assume everyone who owns DVC knows the tougher times to get reservations. I am shocked your waitlist came through so quickly! Congrats!!

Don't feel alone though, our traveling friends who have been owners longer than we have called me last year wanting to know what in the world was going on the first week of December. He tried to make reservations three weeks out and couldn't believe he couldn't find a room!
