What is going on with the monorails?

I know this has been a topic of discussion throughout the years. In the last two weeks, approximately, I'm seeing on social media that the monorail was down about 2-3 times. Additionally, the reports were that they were stuck for an hour or more and people had popped the windows out. Has there been any other information about this? I'll be down there beginning October 2. Maybe I am overreacting but I'm a little nervous. Do I have to anticipate being stranded on the monorail for an hour or more during my trip?

This is why I avoid the monorail if at all possible. It irks me that it's the only way to get to Epcot from those resorts so I don't stay at them. I don't mind the buses. Thankfully, you can still get a bus from MK to Epcot (I think). If not, I'll just hop on one to one of the Epcot resorts and walk through IG instead of taking the monorail. I don't use the sky liner for the same reason. My son isn't a fan of heights and is claustrophobic. I shudder to think what would happen if either of those got stuck for longer than 5 min with him on it.

I don't think you have to anticipate being stranded on the monorail for an hour or more; but it does happen.

I haven't seen any reports of serious monorail problems. It is typical for the monorail to have to pause for as much as 10-15 minutes due to switching trains from one loop to another at some points through the day. But that is not a frequent happening.

I read on Twitter that there was a power outage which affected hotels near the Magic Kingdom and the monorails. But that would have been just one incident.

Powerless Monorail Strands Guests at Disney World in 98 Degrees, August 19.
Guest had to remove some windows in the cars for air until the tow came and pulled it to the MK station. Story is on "Inside the Magic" site.

The video from August 18 is quite interesting. I saw it on another site. You can hear the announcement from Disney telling the guests to remove the windows from the doors. They brought in a crane truck but eventually a special tow vehicle arrived and towed the monorail away. Then 3 days later an Epcot monorail lost power and had to be towed also, according to another site that won't post here, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen!

Part of the issue is that these types of events get posted all over the net and one mechanical issue makes it seem like it happens daily or constantly. If the date of the event isn't shown, you really have no idea when it took place.

Exactly. Living near the parks I get a lot of Disney "news". Headlines get people to read the story. But they seldom read far enough to see that its not a regular occurrence.

True. The skyliner has went down, the monorail and even the ferry and the buses have had issues. Does not happen often but things happen. Remember Hakuna Matata and have a wonderful trip.

These events happened August 18 and 21. It's all hakuna matata until it happens to you! I am always a bit nervous riding the monorails these days. I do not believe they are in the best shape.
