What Is "free Dining" ?

At times, Disney has offered the DDP for free for length of stay for hotel and minimum park ticket purchase. Typically offered end of August or early Sept... times I can't get away! :sad1:

And don't you have to pay rack rate for the actual room in order to get "free" dining? I can see where this would be a great deal for families but maybe not so for couple who might save more with discounted rooms.

We used it last year. It has been offered in the fall (late Aug-Sept) for the past few years. The parks are much less crowded than in the summer, so they use it to draw the poeple in (and it's been working!) But, it can be difficult for those with school aged kids to go at that time, and is it the height of hurricane season.

That's the biggie. It can be a savings for some. For my family, since we stay at deluxe we save more if we get the AP room discount so we don't do the "Free" dining. :rotfl: Nothing at Disney is free.

Isn't that the truth!!!! :rotfl:

Totally. We could have done just as well price wise using a code for the room. We ended up forcing ourselves to eat way more than we would have had the food not been free. I doubt we will ever do the dining plan again.

thanks for the info, we have reserved the dining plan, and I know my husband will drive me nuts with it, wanting to make sure we use it all up!!

"eat every single thing on your plate"!!

I'm new, and keep reading " if" and "when" free dining is offered again
:confused3 :confused3
Since 2005, Disney has been offering Free Dining during the last part of August until the end of September, give or take a few days. It has already been offered to UK visitors for mid-August through this September and to those of us who were there at WDW during Free Dining this past September for the dates of August 30 - September 27 2008 as a bounceback. The free dining for this year should be announced during the first week of April as in previous years. The first couple of days the promo will only be open to Disney Visa holders and then will open up to the general public.

I don't think there really is any "if" or "when" will it be offered. Free Dining has been a brilliant plan on the part of Disney to fill the crowds during what was previously their slowest season, and hurrican season to boot. And then having the bounceback for free food while the free diners are there in the parks, on their Disney high, well I would call that pure marketing genius. We were there for Free Dining last year, and yes we did have fun, but we went for low crowds and there was definetly NOT low crowds during the week of Sept. 14 - 22. Now, I'm not saying it was like peak summer crowds or Easter or Christmas week, but I would not consider the crowds low, maybe medium.

We did save a bundle though, about $1300.00. We have 4 kids, so we always have to have two rooms. There will never be a room code that will save us as much money as the Free Dining promo.
