What is Fastpass+ and Animal Kingdom Questions

Newbie here! How do I get a fastpass+ and what is the difference between that and a regular fastpass?

I'm reading a lot about the trails in Animal kingdom. Are these something that you will walk through on a regular route around the park or something you need to search for? Advice please!

How to make a birthday special at Animal Kingdom:

We're doing quick service lunch so we will do the cake at home.
I got him a "it's my birthday" mickey ear hat.
Get a button
I got his three cousins that are also coming traditional mickey ear hats to be like a gift bag at a regular party

Any suggestions, he will be three

No regular Fast Passes (FP) offered anymore---Fast Pass Plus (FP+) is avaliable.
Check out Mesaboy2's link to figure out when you can make your FP+
selections and other inportant information.

There are two trails you may want to consider.
You will have to map them as they are listed as attractions.
Maharajah Jungle Trek
And
Pangani Forest Exploration Trail

I know you are already having a cake at home BUT I would consider getting cupcakes for the kids and having everyone sing him Happy Birthday in the Park.
Just take a few candles in your pocket.
This makes for great memory photos.
