We do not have internet on our phone so if it is accessed, we have to pay per mb. My DD just downloaded FB Mobile and said there won't be a charge as long as she is using WiFi (like her itouch). Is she correct?

She said FB Mobile. Does that exist or did she get the name wrong? If says on her FB that she activated mobile. If she racks up internet charges, I am going to strangle her. :rotfl:

FB Mobile exists. You can use it on a cell phone or on an iTouch. As far as I know (and someone, please correct me if I'm wrong) if she uses it on her phone, she'll get charged per mb. If she uses it on her iTouch, she only uses wifi and there's no fee.

You should contact your cell phone provider to find out if you will incur charges. I think a lot depends on what kind of texting/multimedia plan you have. The Facebook Mobile download itself is free.

If she is using an iPod touch there are no charges. I do this every day.

She is using her cell phone. I think there is a charge for the cell since we don't have a web package. She used it and I went and checked on the AT&T website but their page that displays charges is down right now. I will check again tomorrow and if it isn't up, I will give them a call.

can you tell us what kind of phone she has? Most "Smart"Phones (keyboard or not) are capable of connecting to the internet via a cellular network or a local area network (aka Wi-Fi).

Downloading (DL'ing) the application could have cost $$ already if she did it via the cellular network. you can usually have these charges reversed and claim ignorance, it sometimes takes playing customer service roulette. Just tell them you were exploring the capabilities of your device and clicked through the screens by mistake.

As for accessing FB or any other social networking site or internet site, you are correct that if you do not have an 'all-you-can-eat" plan than you will be charged usage, just as if you went over your talking minutes.

as for AT&T's OLAM (On-Line Accoutn Manager), it only displays usage after 24-48 hours. You won't see any monetary charges on your bill until your next billing cycle. You can check the phone's data history to see if she did DL/access it through the cellular network.

Worst case you swing by an AT&T store (corporate owned if possible) and ask a rep there to look in to it for you.

Hope this helps.

If she is using WiFi there should not be any extra charge. You aren't using AT&T's bandwidth. Facebook mobile is a program that optimizes facebook for phones.
