Does anyone know what "Expedition: Pins" is all about? What is it, what will happen, and what do I get for my $150 admission? :confused3

The following information pulled from disney's site is not specific:

Expedition: PINS
Saturday May 3, 2008
Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park

Join Mickey Mouse and friends for an extreme "limited" expedition. The world famous Disney characters must return the lost pins from the ancient city of Tradeapin to the towering Forbidden Mountain. Once returned, these mysterious pins, each representing the elements of wind, water, earth and fire, will restore peace to the land.

Get ready for an unforgettable trading trek full of thrills, surprises and, of course, pins. Beware, you may encounter a snarling beast who watches over this treacherous terrain ... the Yeti!

Event admission is $150 per Guest.

Registration for Expedition Pins will open Wednesday November 28, 2007. Stay tuned, more details to follow!

They are always sketchy with this type of info. It gives them room to do whatever they want. I've never gone to a DAK event because they are so pricy. The 3 day EPCOT event was $90.

Past events in DAK had a buffet dinner, some of the rides open, some "entertainment", and of course, the chance to maybe buy some pins. They also will probably have some gift pins.

This one has an Expedition Everest theme....the one before had a DinoRama (Route 486 which is the road between the rides and Chesters & Hesters) theme.

As stated above it is a pin event being held at AK. Pin events do provide merchandise that are themed around the event, since its a pin event it will mostly be pins, frame sets with pins, and box sets. They are also doing a sculpt that comes with Pins. As David stated it is a more expensive event, but it is also has a smaller number of people attending, which I personally like.

In addition to the rides, there are also games and other pin activities during the event. They will likely be setting up a dedicated trading area at one of the near by convention facilities on property where they have event themeing, some cast member entertainment and trading activities.

Note that at AK the only time that fireworks have ever been shot off was during a pin event, so they try to do some pretty different stuff.

We will certainly be there, and hope to see other familiar faces :)

Mary & I are planning on going although we feel $150 is a bit steep for one night.

One of the gifts is a pin trading messenger bag.

Don't forget - registration is this coming Wednesday, the 28th!

$150 is a bit high, especially if I don't know for certain what's included. These events should max out at $50, like the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.

This event won't be for 25,000 people like MVMCP. It is a completely different concept. There will be pins and other "gifts" included in the $150 admission price, and I imagine there will be a meal included as well.

We would love to go but I just don't see us plunking down $450 for the 3 of us to attend. Especially since there are lots of special pins released just for the event that are NOT included in the price.

Try the above official link as well, as stated on the 28th you'll be able to see a full picture of what they are going to be doing.

Events like this are far more limiting and most people find that if you add up the meal, the gifts, and the experience the cost they charge is fairly reasonable. When I compare it to the Halloween or Xmas parties, you pay a high admission cost and just get the experience, no gifts, and even with those events, you still end up buying event specific items that interest you, i.e the pins or the mugs or whatever interests you.

While it does seem kind of expensive, we have attended a couple of the Animal Kingdom events in the past and have always felt like they were an excellent event and worth the admission price.
