What is everyone getting SO for sweetest day??

never heard of it

Amzey... your college life is sounding like so much fun!

So this is an OHIO holiday??? That's what we get for having American Greetings in Cleveland!

I always got chocolates from a certain candy store but the store went bankrupt this summer so I'll get nothing!!!

As for dh, the baby & I are going to my mom's over night. He gets quality time with his sons! :)

Ive heard of it, but wasnt sure when it was. I will get DH nothing and Im sure he doesnt even know it exists. However we are planning on possibly going out for dinner Saturday, but with the kids. At least its a little something. ;)

i've celebrated it since i don't know when and i'm not from ohio orignally. :P. it's more or less a hallmark holiday. my hubby is getting a card, a quiet morning at home while i work and dinner brought home. i'll probably get flowers and a card. he works for a grocery store so he has no excuse on either acct. he can buy while at work. sweetest day :bounce:

I had never heard of it until we lived in Chicago for two years. My sister and her so had made such a fuss about it. There it is on the commercials, radios etc. Once back in NJ dh and I forgot all about it. You don't hear of it here. So we will do nothing. I am however, getting new tires for my new jeep wrangler. Once this is done I can take it on the beach. Cool.

from what they were saying on the radio today, this is definately a "mid-western" holiday.

Just look below to see what I am getting DH...

That is strange because I used to like a guy from Addison, IL and I remember he sent me a gift for sweetest day! I know we have cards here for the holiday but I never hear anyone talk about it. Too many holidays-- I can't keep the regular ones straight!

Well, I hope I get nada because that's what DH is getting.

We'll be at niece/Goddaughter's 1st BD party and, that's what's important on Sat. 10/19!!! To me, anyway!! :) :Pinkbounc

Dh and I agree that "sweetest day" is a
shameless attempt by the florists/card companies/
candy manufacturers to make more money. Hey, it
a democracy and their capitalistic side is showing.
We do not choose to subscribe. We do celebrate
Valentine's Day in a minor way. Besides, we love
each other everyday.

DH and I usually go out to dinner, but he is golfing and we have a church Chili dinner on Saturday. I am taking the girls to see Veggie Tales while DH is golfing.

I'd be willing to bet he's never even heard of it.

We do nothing for Sweetest Day -- thankfully, A.) DW thinks it's as dumb of a holiday as I do and B.) it's always a couple days from our anniversary, so we just celebrate that instead. :)

I went out & got dw a dozen roses..:)
Last year I got a babysitter and we went out and had a peaceful night...;)

I am not sure that SO will even remember. He isn't good about those kind of things, but when he forgets he feels so bad he usually makes it up better than whatever his original intention would have been.

SO is on a sports binge right now. He and his friend are furtively trying to get tickets to see the Colts play in a few weeks. (I had no idea football tickets could be so expensive) anyways, the other day we were at the mall and we walked by Champs (or something like it) and he saw a Nike football he wanted. I said why can't you just get a walmart football, but he needed the "Nike" one, so we were going to pick it up on our way back through, but he forgot, so I went to the mall today and got it. I also got some gourmet European candies for him. We are also going to go see Blast II:Shockwave tomorrow, but that isn't specifically for Sweetest Day, just because we want to see it. Also last night we went to see the National touring of Les Miserable so he was more than happy with that. He loves theater and Les Mis is one of his favorites. I have to say it was a great show.

I came home to twelve beautiful roses. I was surprised and felt very bad since I didn't get DH anything. I will see if Shep will post the roses...:)

DW Sue (the floral designer) explained to me the connection that Pembo pointed out. Sweetest Day is the invention of Cleveland base American Greetings. It is celebrated in neighboring states, but is definitely a regional "holiday".

I got Sue a dozen red roses and I bought Sarah a dozen white roses. Sue and I even got to go out to dinner tonight while James was at a football game and Sarah was at her first middle school dance (where she slow danced with a boy!!!!). And Sweetest Day is officially until tomorrow!

I didn't even know such a holiday existed!

I think there should be a "kick in the backside" day for all those SO's who forget important holidays/anniversaries ;)

I've never heard of this one and I hope that it never becomes a popular thing in this area. It'll just end up being another holiday for DH to forget.
