What is Chef Tj's schedule at Ohana?

My mom is a vegetarian and really enjoyed his food last time we were there so I want to make sure we are there when he is. Thanks for your help.:wizard:

I can not imagine that you can predict when a certain chef is working - I am sure schedules change.

It is enough work to plan a vacation and ARD's but to plan around a chef is a little over the top.

Relax - I am sure the meal will be good no matter who the chef is. WDW is very specific standards to which all food is prepared.

When you make the ADR's indicate a veg. meal is needed.

I might be wrong, but I think I read that he is off Friday and Saturday.
(I know he wasn't working the day I went, which was a Friday)
Hope that helps.

In Oct. we had Chef Julie on Sat. evening and Tues. morning.

Love Chef TJ, so I completely understand why you would want to be there when he is. He always makes a special dessert for my DS, who has peanut and egg allergies. We have been a fan of his since he worked at Boma years ago. I'm going on a Sunday night for our upcoming trip, so I hope TJ will be there!

You can find out his regular schedule, but you still can't predict if he will switch shifts, go on vacation or call in sick. I would think the only way to be sure is call 'Ohana directly the day you want to go and ask, but with the ADR situation the way it is, that will possibly help you only if you want to bow out if he isn't there.

It's understood that TJ takes especially good care of allergic guests, vegetarian guests and vegan guests, though, so I understand why they seek him out.

Thanks everyone who replied with helpful answers to my question and with personal experiences as to when you've seen him there. Chef TJ is very special and we were able to book on a day when he was there last year thanks to information from wonderful disers. Hopefully this year we will get lucky again and have him. This is the one and only meal my mom is looking forward to and it is because of him. She ate at Ohana at her 1st Disney trip (she's 77) last year and was thrilled with Holiday Wishes view and the fabulous vegetarian meal Chef TJ prepared.:wizard:

It's really not over the top.

What IS over the top is what this particular chef creates for vegetarian and vegan guests. The other chefs might make a good dish, but it's just whatever is on the menu. This particular chef is known for making incredible, never-ending feasts (just like the meat-eaters get), not just one dish that you can supplement with the broccoli.

I made an ADR for a Sunday this September with the hopes that he'll be working (I think I also read somewhere here that he's off Friday and Saturday)! Last time I went Chef Julie was working (I think). The dish was very good, but nothing compared to the multi-course feasts I have seen on here! I was in awe of the pictures in some of the reviews. I hope it works out that he's there for your visit (and mine)!

Couldn't have said it better.:wizard:

Here is some pixie dust for us both.pixiedust: I'm going to schedule Ohana on a Monday and hope for the best. It will be the day before we leave just like last year's trip (last year we were there on a Sunday). It was a great way to end the trip.

I totally understand you seeking his schedule out. I did last winter for my family's dinner and it paid off--:wizard:This meal was the most magical meal my son has EVER had--not just at Disney on this particular trip--most magical EVER!! :wizard: Heck, this is the only time I've ever been jealous that I didn't have a food allergy! The special treatment he gave our son was fabulous! TJ rocks! We went on a Monday.

Do you remember some of the dishes that he made for your mom?
Is she vegan or vegetarian?
thanks

She's a lactose intolerant vegetarian.

Forgive my pictures. They do not do his artful creations justice.

A scrumptious edible mountain every bit as insurmountable as Everest. All five of us together couldn't chop this down, though we did try. This mountain is made of rice noodles, vegetable tempura, and the most delicious, perfectly cooked tofu cubes in some sort of heavenly sauce.

No he didn't just serve a mountain and then expect her to eat a hill for dessert. Grand kids took pity on her and helped out. This is chocolate Tofutti, Divvies chocolate chip cookies and banana. It is drizzled with chocolate sauce and topped with a cherry. It was ridiculous.

Wow, that is awesome! I hope he is there on Tuesday, as we have an ADR for that night of the week and I am a vegetarian!:thumbsup2

Pixie dust to you.pixiedust: I think if everything I've read holds true, he should be there. Please come back and let me know if he was there.:wizard:

I'm a vegetarian so mom and I had the same meal but I'm not lactose intolerant so he made me this crazy concoction.

They are deep fried cheddar potatoes garnished with Cheetos. They were sooooooooo good I scraped the plate!

Plus you will be able to have the delicious bread, the salad, the noodles and the broccoli all of which come with the regular meal and are delicious. You will be bursting at the seams.

OMG that dish looks amazingly delicious! Did you call ahead for special dietary requests? I don't have any restrictions, but I would love to have that instead of the regular items!

It was sooooo yummy! I did have our dietary restrictions noted on our reservation. I don't think they will substitute this item for a regular item on the menu if you don't have any dietary restrictions. Chef TJ makes a lot of different dishes he may not do this one the next time we go. He notes your restrictions and then I believe he makes things according to what ever ingredients he has on hand.:wizard:
