Has anyone had a buffet breakfast at the Yacht Club's Captains Grille and does it get crowded. We are thinking of a 7:30 ressie when we get to the 180 day booking window. 2 adults and 1 disabled child. Can you just go upto the food bar and plate up yourself?
Thanks :)

We have done both the buffet and off the menu...

The buffet was horrible, it is the same food as Cape May Clambake but it is not kept up as well and since the restaurant is not as busy the food gets dried out and old.

The menu was not that great either except to say the bacon was very crispy. I think they just take the stuff off the buffet and stick it on a plate for you! The eggs benny was very good but the potatoes they served with it was just nasty.

It is very nice. Uusually not crowded, but depends on confernece crowd at YC. They offer both a menu at breakfast or the buffet. With the buffet, the server would bring drinks and then you go to the buffet to get food.

I've had different experiences with the buffet than Nicki. I've found it to be fairly good both in July and last October. You tell the server you're doing the buffet and serve yourselves.

We like the food much more than Cape May and found it to have more selections than CM too. It's a hidden gem at WDW and a good value. It has never been crowded in our experience, but, as PP noted, I am sure conferences play a big role in crowd levels.

It works just like the other buffets, except that you tell your server that you intend to have the buffet when it is time to order. S/he will bring drinks.

We've had very good food from both the buffet and a la carte. Since you plan to go at 7:30, the food will be quite fresh. I like it better than Cape May, too. There are a few differences. Enjoy.

Well as hard as it is to say, in fear it will become popular and crowded, its one of our favs. Its always quiet and pretty much empty when we have been. We've never had a problem with not having fresh food. I think they have the best Mickey waffles in all of WDW. DH and I love going and its a must do ADR every trip.

I agree with those that like breakfast buffet at Captains Grill. At 7:30 there should not be a crowd. Was at YC the week before last - had breakfast there 2 days, without ADR. First day, went around 9:00 a.m. and had to wait about 15 minutes (there were a few other parties also waiting). Next morning went a bit earlier (I think a little after 8:00) and the place was almost empty. Buffet is in a separate room from the tables. First day there was nothing in the spot for corned beef hash. It was there the next day - it was the one thing I thought I'd like that I wasn't crazy about - corned beef was strips mixed into the breakfast potatoes rather than the chopped type I'm used to. But we enjoyed everything else and buffet was a good value - esp. for WDW.

We had breakfast there on our last day. We order a la carte. DH and DMom had the Eggs Your Way, your typical american breakfast fare, I had the Eggs Benedict, which were very yummy :lovestruc... DDad had the Smoked Salmon and Toasted Bagel and he loved it. He can't wait to go back to the World just so he can eat there again lol... I'll try to put a pic

Julie - have you seen disneymad's pictures of this on the hello live from the world thread on the UK board - looks great.

I just ate here this am with my dw. We walked in no ressie at 9:00am. It was half full, food was fresh and replaced quickly on the Buffett. My dw got the eggs your way. She thought it was very good as well.

Thanks for the hint. That pix of the buffet food looks good, so we are going to book. :thumbsup2

One of the items on the buffet I love is a simple roasted plum tomato with parmesan cheese melted on it.

I like the breakfast buffet here and it has never been to crowded for us. I would recommend everything but the grits, I wasn't a big fan of these.
