Tower of Terror 13K or Race for the taste 10K. I can only choose one since they are so close together. Any opinions I have not done either race.

Epcotdude,
I ran both last year. I had already signed up for the RFTT then they decided to have the TOT race so I had to sign up for that one.

RFTT - typical daytime race, but at Disney which makes it special. I had a good time as this was my first race at Disney. The benefit to me is that they offer discount tickets to the Food and Wine festival. The food afterward wasn't anything special so don't go just for that :) As with other Disney races, they have nice bling. I really enjoyed the weekend.

TOT - I know a lot of people didn't like this race because of all the issues. But, I really liked this race. Yes, the traffic was terrible getting there and that put a little dampener on the race. Originally it was to start at 9:00 then they changed it to 9:30 then because of the traffic they actually didn't start the race until 10:00 (scheduled start this year). This is not an issue except it limits the time in the park afterward.

I assume that will all be behind them this year. But, what a cool race. First of all it was at night. How often do you get to race at night. Not many locations can pull that off. We ran through the Sports complex that was all lit up. Very cool. They even had an off road portion of the course although it had rained a bit earlier and there were a lot of puddles. We ran through Hollywood Studios quite a bit actually. Then, after the race we got to play in Hollywood Studios for a couple of hours. Usually after a race everyone just splits up. Here there was something to do. I rode TOT and RRC a few times as well as Star Tours. Pretty much walked on. I think the extra cost for a family member to get into the park was $20 or $25.

So, I would and did pick the TOT race this year. We will probably do Universal Horror Night on Friday then the race and Hollywood Studios on Saturday. Last year we did the Mickey Halloween Party on Friday night.

whichever you choose, enjoy,
Duane

Sorry, I won't be of any help here but I did want to chime in and say how much I enjoyed the ToT race last year. I especially love the medal! The night race was unique but I was pretty tired after the race and didn't really feel like riding the rides although I did ride the ToT two times in a row! :teeth:

I'm going to do the Race for the Taste this year. The Food and Wine festival and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party will be going on during that weekend as well.

The ToT is awesome, Erica and I will be there. It's a mobile party with special effects and lots of good WISH company.

To me the RFTT was just another race. It was my first Disney race so I was all jazzed up but it wasn't anything too great. I have not done the TOT.

TOT was my first Disney race and I thought it was AWESOME. I now signed up for 3 more Disney races and plan on signing up for TOT when it opens. I would love to do the RFTT just to say I did it but I loved the TOT and the running at night thing was really cool

I have to agree ToT over RFT. RFT is just another 10K. Food at the end is okay. After the race there is nothing special.

With ToT you get the night time experience, glow in the dark stuff, and the park afte the race.

I like them both and may do both, but if I had to make a decision. ToT would rule.

Sorry for Hi-jacking your thread but,Dh and I will be at the world at the time of the RFTT, so I'm signing up for it. Does anyone like it?

I wish we were there for TOT, it sounds awesome. Maybe next year the dates will work out for us.

SamSam,
I liked the RFTT. Heck it is still a Disney Race. It is just if I have to pick I like the TOT better becasue of the park afterward and it's nighttime.

The RFTT was my first Disney race and only my second race overall. You will enjoy it. They still have the Disney excitiment.

I ran both last year and enjoyed both. I like the medal for RFTT better than the TOT one. The party after the TOT was alot of fun. My sister and I ran the 6.5k and we got to go on TOT 4 or 5 times in a row with no wait. That was great. They also gave out brownies after TOT - I loved that!! Wish they would do that at every race. I think I enjoyed TOT more because I had my sis with me. But RFTT was fun too. I wish they gave out a shirt instead of a beer glass tho.

That said I am running both this year. Good luck deciding!

Becky

I haven't run RFTT (I will ths year!), but last year's ToT was plagued with issues, but still a ton of fun. The biggest issues will hopefully be taken care of this year. If you were fast-ish (DH finished top 50) you ran into the 6.5k runners and walkers at MGM and had to dodge them as they walked 3 abreast down the middle of the roads. Traffic/parking was a huge issue. I think the time change is largely due to the fact that Fantasmic viewers were trying to exit MGM as runners were trying to enter. An additional accident didn't help, either. There were issues with the gravel/mud stretch between the road and WWoS. It had rained earlier in the day, and dodging mud and water-filled potholes has not fun (IMHO). I'd bet that they'll get most of these issues worked out (the 6.5k is gone, for example) and make it an even better race.

It was neat doing the night race through MGM (WDW looks better at night I think).

Becky and Duane, Thanks for the heads up on RFTT, I was beginning to think I shouldn't do it. You're right, it's still a Disney race, and even though I haven't participated in my first one yet, I'm really psyched about my first (Minnie 15k). I have my RFTT form printed out, ready to send in.:)
I'll probably really be dragging at the RFTT because DH and I are going to a Party for the Senses the night before. :goodvibes

Thanks for all the great input! Wish I could do both. Seems the TOT gets the most positive feedback, but I still want to consider both.
