And is the only reliable source for your score to pay to see it on one of the 3 credit sites, like Experian?

The range for scores is 0-850. Are you asking for loan purposes? In general, any score of 740 or above is considered "A+" paper in terms of lending decisions. If you apply for a loan, most lenders can tell you what your score is. The credit bureaus have an option to get your score through them for a fee.

you are entitled to one free credit report per year. That does not include credit score but they will then offer you a discount to get it. I cannot recall the website, sorry. SOmeone will chime in here, I'm sure. As far as score, above 700 I think I recall hearing....last year, I checked mine and it was just under 800...think it is about being a business owner:confused3 They send me credit card stuff all the time...........:lmao:

You can get your reports from annualcreditreports.com but to get your real scores you need to get them from myfico. Check to see if there is a discount code somewhere to use.

I thought I heard recently that with the tightening of credit markets, 760 was now that baseline for a good score. I could be wrong.

We have an 875, and our report stated that the top of the range is 925. So perhaps different companies use different scales?:confused3

Before we signed up for online banking, we'd forget payments occasionally. I hated paying those late fees, and this is why we don't have a perfect rating.

The FICO credit score ranges between 300 and 850. The VantageScore score ranges from 501-990. Your must be based on the VantageScore.

You cannot get the FICO score based on Experian data nowadays. Businesses can but there is no mechanism for consumers to do so.

The Vantage score is useful as a tool to see what items could be affecting you and where you stand relative to others. True that the range is very high for this one.

Somewhere in the area of the score number should be details about what score it is. All credit bureaus have their own which are just approximations or even the FICO score with a different name.

My understanding was that places extending credit typically used FICO scores or enhanced FICO scores (the example I hear was for auto in particular). Those other scores - not so much. So you might want to check myfico.com and see what your scores really are. I think you can only get two of the big three from there now - the third, the last time I looked, wasn't making their scores available publicly any more. :confused3

I don't check our credit scores often, but they are fairly good and have been fairly consistent. They tend to go up slightly each year, but with the new credit environment, and with cards being closed, I'll be checking in a while to see how things have changed. I don't expect them to drop a whole lot, but you never can tell! If Fair Isaac starts computing scores differently, who knows!

This was freecreditreport.com and they said we had an excellent rating and that the top of their scale was 925.

Disdreamin', I went and did myfico. This was helpful. Thanks!

We are at the 7 years after bankruptcy...(business failed...long story). I found DH & my FICO scores & I was surprised they were both 700. We do have a dept. store cc & Talbots that I have had small balances on (immediately paid off) over the years. Also my mom got a Discover card w/ me as an authorized user, which does show up on our credit report. I guess clean living for the last 7 years ain't so bad..

Sorry about your BK, and congrats on bringing your scores up so high despite it!

I have identity monitor by Citi, and it's still showing Experian's credit score.

If you're looking at doing something big over the next few months, and you really want to keep on top of your scores, credit monitoring programs can really be helpful. They show you your report and your scores for all three. And there can be a 10-20 point difference between them. You never know which agency they'll pull your report from. So it's an easy way to stay on top of it, and you'll know when the best time is to apply for that credit.

I just did Quizzle.com and got scores and a free credit report from Experian.com.

Good to know! When I looked into this, I found the following:

"* Quizzle uses a 900-point scale for credit scores, which means it adds 50 points to the user’s FICO (the FICO scale maxes out at 850). This is a version of credit score inflation which makes the user feel a little better about their score."

Thus, it's a little hard to tell what this score really means. It's cool and all, and free is great though! If I were looking into credit scores because I was pursuing a mortgage or major loan, I think I might still be tempted to do the credit monitoring thing, at least temporarily, to get true FICO scores.
