What is a General Code?

I'm so new to learning all of the info about staying on property that I've not read a definition/description as to what a General Code is. Someone mentioned them in one of the AP code threads. So my questions are: what is a general code? can anyone use one when they're out? are there a limited amount of rooms that can book with this code once released? what has generally been the discount in the past with a General Code?

There are many different types of codes. The ones you have heard about on the boards tonight are the AP codes (for annual pass holders) and FL resident codes (for FL residents obviously) The general codes are for anyone when and if they come out. However, it looks as though right now, they are not. Disney only offers so many rooms linked to codes so once they are gone, they are gone. The history of general codes in the past has been with them being released around the same time as AP and FL resident codes. Visit MOUSESAVERS to see the history of codes being released.
