What is a Couzzles?

What is a Couzzles?


OK, I'll do my best to describe them for you.
They are like harder plastic templates of the same design only in different graduated sizes. I was so excited when I bought mine!! I bought one actual Collozzle brand name one, and an off brand. I found that with use, the off brand one has plastic covering coming off.

You use an exacto knifelike tool to cut the shape out on paper. They work for matting in different sizes of the same design. Myself I like mine, but I don't use it as much as I thought I would.

Most LSS should give you instructions on how to use them before leaving the store. Mine actually let me play and practice w/mine before I left so I felt more confident. (I'm always afraid of trying anything new ).

Hope this explains what they are to you. Perhaps others may be able to explain them better.

There are several companies that make a similar product. They are sort of expensive though. I have one, made by an off company, that I use all the time so it was well worth the price. Some people collect them. Once you get a few in your collection you can start to combine them, just like the punches, to make paper piecing. The knife that is used is called a swivel knife. The blade turns as you guide it through the slots in the templet.

It takes a bit of practice.

I had been a little afraid of coluzzles for a while and finally last month splurged. I have the alphabet, oval, heart, regtangle, shell, and I've just ordered the tag from Shapemakers (also can be used with Coluzzle systems) and I'm totally addicted. It does take a little practice. A few tips: be sure to keep your knife straight up and down and make sure to remove the plastic sheeting off BOTH sides of the template before using. It's the greatest for making my alphabet that I've found so far!
