What is a "bounceback offer"?

I have seen this mentioned many times when speaking of a discount. Is this where you book your next vacay before you depart a current WDW resort? If so, I am interested as we are there in Aug. and I would like to plan ahead for 2013. Can you book ANY resort for any length? Can you change the dates later and retain the discount? What is the usual discount? How does this work?

You are correct. A bounceback offer is offered to you during a resort stay (not always, though), and you have to book BEFORE you checkout of your room. If there is no flyer in the room (or perhaps listed on the resort tv channel), then you can call the front desk and ask if there are any BB offers available. The BB offers are only good for specific dates/resorts. During August, however, the BB offer will likely just be for return trips through the end of 2012. Usually the BBs for the following year aren't available until later in the year, but maybe you'll get lucky. Good luck!

The FD BB that usually starts in August is to be able to book a FD package a year ahead for the next years FD dates. Last year DISer jgraney posted a copy of the FD BB flyer from their room that says it was placed in rooms 8/8/11 for stays in 2012:

This is the bounceback that I had in my room:

It runs from 8/17 thru 9/27/2012. Quick service for values and regular dining for the moderates. Be on the look out for this in your room.
Looks like maybe general public will maybe eventually get this . Lets hope!
The lady at the reservations said it was first placed in the rooms on 8/8/2011.

Call extension 8844 from your resort room to ask about BB offers BEFORE you check out - you can book any resort that has availability, will have to put down a $200 package deposit, and regular cancellation penalties will apply. But you will know a year in advance that you have Free Dining booked, and will not have to worry if it will be offered or not

Thank you both so much! I was a little disappointed to see that I may not be able to book for 2013, but now I am hopeful that I will either get a FD BB offer or a discount. I will post what was offered on my return.

Since a BB has to be booked on or before your check out day, I just wanted to add that you can modify dates/resort later as long as the new dates fall within the BB dates and the resort you want is available under the promo. Disney offers discounts to fill rooms, so if a resort is near or at capacity, that particular resort won't qualify for a discount, so sometimes you have to be flexible with your dates and/or resort. A BB can also be cancelled without penalty as long as it's cancelled by the 45 day mark (for packages).

Just booked a bounce-back trip during our Poly stay last week.

They only had dates available through December, but the CM said that when 2013 dates come out I can rebook the vacation retaining the same discount (if the 2013 dates come out before our bounce back trip in Sept). Some dates on the current 2012 calendar are blocked out. Availability at resorts/levels varies.
