What is a better RSR strategy?

We will be going to DL in a few weeks. Just wondering if anybody has any input as to what strategy would be best to ride RSR. We are staying at VGC, so we will be able to get in early. Once we get in, should we just trek to RSR and actually ride RSR, or should DH take DS7 to ride the ride while I get a FP, just in case it's down, or the line is already humungous?

What time do you recommend we get in line to go to the park?

All this talk about Carsland has me pretty stressed about this trip. I would like to get up early our first day and pretty much knock it off the to-do list then relax and enjoy the rest or our vacation.

Will we encounter huge lines to ride the other 2 Carsland attractions as well?

Thanks!

I can tell you my plan and you can adapt it as you want. We will be at DLR in two weeks and will be staying at GCH.

We will have two DCA EMHs and will likely use them differently. On the first one...

1. We will get to the security gates by 6:30AM

2. We will head to straight to RSR when the park opens - if it is working we will get in line and ride

3. We will do Luigi's then Maters - if we can get them done by 8AM

4. Right before 8AM we will get in line for RSR FPs so we can ride it later that night

5. We will go to TSMM and ride it once or twice

This all works if RSR is running. If not, we will adapt and get RSR FPs as soon as we can and then move on.

No reason to stress about anything. It is Disneyland Resort. :)

With RSR, I used the Single Rider line and honestly it was just as fast as the FP line in my opinion. Maybe a tad bit longer but not by all that much, if you have a kid that's old enough to ride alone and miss out on a FP use the Single Rider line (if it doesn't get closed off) and have your kid wait for you at the exit. If you have EMH, try to get there really early and then book it to RSR and hope it doesn't break down in the morning... get a FP for it after... then ride it again at night because it is an amazingly different experience at night.

The other lines don't get as long as RSR but I have found that it takes awhile for people to get on the ride and off the ride so it makes it feel rather long.

i have heard that if you get their about 730 you can get let in early and they will stop you at bv street and at 8 walk you to cars land. If you are thier early then you could be on the ride and done by about 8:30. then id head over to lft or mjy if you wanted to do those and then id leave cars land and go to the rest of the park

So I'm assuming that if my kids are 9 & 7 they can ride alone and we can go in the single rider line. We will just have DH go first so he will be off when they get off and me go last so that they won't ever be waiting alone???
Would that work? There is no way I am getting up to line up at 7am on my holiday. That truly is not a holiday for me or the kids.

ill defiantly be getting up early even on my holiday i know if i wait it could be a 2 hour line so to me and my kid it is worth it. Its vacation but you have to know how to plan to make it less stress full.

Kids 7 and under need to ride with someone 14 and older...

If you want a fantastic Disney holiday that's how you do it, the 1st 2-3 hours of an early park opening are lovely. Take a mid day break *nap* and you'll be fine.

Keep in mind that right now the fast passes for RSR are usually gone by 9am. I have been three times in the last week andit has been the case. I recommend getting in the fast pass line at 8 when it opens. Then immediately go ride Mater's and Luigi's ride right after that. Because of the frequent breaking down of the ride, I don't recommend standby even first thing in the morning. My friend lined up at 8am in the standby line and waited 3.5 hours because the ride broke down 3 times while she waited. One day it broke down during my fast pass time and they just let me come back later at anytime before closing and honored it. Way easier! Here are my fast pass times to give you an ideas:
At 8:50 am - 7:30 pm fast pass
8:20 am - 1:15 pm fast pass
8:35 am - 3:30 pm fast pass
It takes 20-30 min to get through the fast pass linear opening.

So my 7 year old should be able to ride alone??? I guess we will find out for sure there if it's 7 and under must ride with an older person or under 7. The single rider line seems like it's the best option for us. We do have one magic morning which of course is for DL, but for our 3 days in the park I'm not getting up that early that often. We all need our sleep since it is a holiday. Nothing worse than coming back from a holiday more tired than when you left and Disney is hectic enough as it is. I know we may miss rsr unless we can do that single rider line, but that's OK. One ride to me is not worth being tired all day. We do plan on going back to the hotel during the day, but my kids will want to swim, so no nap for us then.lol

I am pretty sure at age 7 they can ride alone. My 7 and 9yo boys rode Screamin' together without us last March.

I believe there was a 7 year old and her parents a few people ahead of me, and her parents made her get in front of them so that they could watch her get on the ride. And then they got on the ride. So I believe you can be 7 y.o and ride alone, but if the child is under 7 I remember hearing that they needed to be with someone 14 y.o or older. At least that's what they said at DL. Could be different at DCA.

I am planning to go there on one of the days that hotel guests get in an hour early. That means I would be let in at 7am, correct?

The fp line doesn't open until 8 but do people start lining up at 7am or do most people just go try to ride the ride?

Thanks for all of your helpful advice!

Don't think we are going to have our 7 y/o do single rider line if it is the right age. Our 7 y/o wouldn't be ready for that--although I imagine other 7 y/o's would be. It all depends on the kid....

las3888: We were just talking about that. We will play it by ear by other rides as we are not doing carsland on our first day. We are going to do DL first and rides over there and we will see how it goes from there. If she is not ready by the time we have our carsland day, we will have to see how the FP line is or the rideline, but certainly wouldn't push her.
I thought she would be ready, but hubby did not (funny how men are so much more protective of their little girls, het he would have let my boy ride at 4 alone if he could.lol)
We will just have to play that one by ear and hope it works out:)

Here is the problem with this set up. 7yo gets on, parents are on vehicles behind her. 7yo gets off ride, and parents get stuck on ride.... It happened to a friend of mine. They had 10 people and let the kids ride together. After the kids were off, it dawned on the parents that if something happened, there would be a bunch of kids alone. So one parent sat off, and sure enough, kids made it off, and parents got stuck for 30 mins.

That's why my husband would go first to ensure he was off first and kids in the middle so I would be in line with them and me last. They would never be alone.

Ah, but they could get stuck on the ride alone.
