I just did a thread about what you wanted to name your kids..but I want to know how people came up with their childrens names..

My daughter Rayden was almost an Ariel, Savannah or Cameron. Hubby wanted Champagne..I said no way!!

Rayden was finally agree'd upon from a video game turned movie..Mortal Kombat. Crazy I know... but we tell her it means Japanese Thunder Goddess, so it makes it better for her :) Her middle name is JoAnna, after her grandmother (dads side) JoAnn.

2nd daughter Kayleigh Deven - Kayleigh..wanted something not as different as Rayden..didn't realize how popular it was! I tried a little less common spelling tho. And Deven is a combination of 2 names..my moms and stepmoms. Deidra Eve, and Evelyn
:)

Richard because I love the name. Just happens to be the name of a former boyfriend and the name of my OB also.
Keith after my husband
Edward after my dad.

There you have it...Richard Keith Edward

My daughters name is Ansley. A co-worker, who lived in another state, had a baby and named her Ansley. Ever since I heard it I knew that would be my daughters name. Six years later when I got pregnant, I told my husband and he loved it too. Middle name was a lot tougher but finally decided on Mariah. Ansley is now 10 and to this day, I've only heard two other people with the name.

Oldest is after my Dad's best friend from the Navy and is what my name would have been if I was a boy. Middle child has DH's best friends name for his middle name. DD has my middle name for hers and her name was cemented after hearing about Lauren Manning.

Eric Jonathan was named after my dad, Erich, and DH's deceased brother, Jon.

Hunter Perry - We just liked Hunter and thought it was unique. Of course now it's turned into a trendy name. I hate it when THAT happens. Perry is DH's middle name.

Gabrielle was just Gabrielle because....and then she needed a strong middle name to go with the strong first and last name so Elizabeth it was--- Gabrielle Elizabeth

Danielle- well, she was suppose to be Daniel Christopher...she was a boy you know!.... we got ready to leave our our appt baby and DMIL said you better pick a girls name- na--- he's a boy!...she said- just use Danielle Christina if its a girl..

So there we have it-

Gabrielle Elizabeth and
Danielle Christina

Poor kids- 26 and 25 letters LOL

Brandy

Morgan was the only name exh and I could agree on. We wanted a family name for the middle name and the only family name that sounded good with Morgan was Rebecca, which is exh's mother's middle name.

Got the big book of 35,000 baby names and my ex-wife and I agreed on one. Alyssa. Good thing she was a girl ;)

Interesting thread.

Nicole Marie got her name because each of us didn't like the other one's first choice. I wanted Ashley or Natalie and DH didn't care for those names. He wanted Rachel, and I said no (I knew a Rachel that I didn't like). We both liked Nicole, so that was it. It suits her perfectly. Marie is DH's mom's middle name. We call her "Cole" or "Colie" - never Nikki.

Jared Russell was chosen because we couldn't decide between Jared or Jacob. DH took a poll at his office, and Jared won. Russell is DH's dad's middle name. He's now called either J-Rod or just "J". The nicknames suit him, as he plays baseball.

I'm happy with our name choices, since not every kid has them. It seems like every third boy in our school system is either named Michael, Christopher, or Matthew (nothing wrong with those names at all; just hard to keep all of them straight!). And there are more Ashleys and Katies than I'd have ever imagined.

The poll should have been multiple choice!!

Older DD was from a TV show...Family Ties.

Younger DD is a combination of a song AND my Nana's name. Before I even realized it was my Nana's name, I fell in love with the Beatle's song, Julia.

I named my daughter Kayleigh since I fell in love with the song "Kayleigh" by the 80's band Marillion. My DH also loved the song so it was an easy choice for us! It has become SOOO popular...she's 7 now and there are a few Kayleigh/Kaylee/Kaily/Caylee/etc around now. I really thought it was going to be unique LOL!

My oldest caused quite a problem. My husband wanted to name the baby after him, Raymond. I love my husband, but not the name. His father is also Raymond

So we decided on Raymond Bradley. We both love the name Brad and that's what he goes by. If he needs to use his full name he uses R. Bradley. And everyone is happy.

My youngest was easy...Ryan...we all agreed on that one. His middle name is Alexander after Alexander the Great.

My DD's first name, Zoe, is one I've liked since my teens. This was the name of the friend of a little girl I babysat. I liked that it is kind of unique but easy to spell for a child.

Her middle name is Akira because that is the name her birthmother had picked if she had not decided to place DD for adoption. I wanted to give DD some kind of tie to her birthparents as well as to show my appreciation of their decision. I think the two work well together to make a beautiful name for my beautiful little girl.

ETA - Since I'm single, I consider myself lucky that I was able to pick a name I liked and didn't have to come to an agreement with anyone else. :)

Robert Allen ****(last name) - DS6 - named after my (now deceased) Uncle Bob, who I always have admired. Also, DW's maiden name is Robertson, so it's kinda cute. Allen is my middle name.

David Andrew ****(last name) - DS4 - has my first name. Andrew comes from one of my counsin's sons. Note, I never, ever wanted a "Junior" or "2nd"...... that's why I purposely gave Robert my middle name.

As a side note, Robert attends Roberts Elementary School in our school district.

Good topic!
Dave

My ex-h and I could not agree on anything. He wanted "typical" names like Christy or Anne and I wanted something a little more unusual (at least at the time!). We met halfway on that with Devyn Nicole. I got Devyn's name from a girl who used to be on Kids, Incorporated (anyone remember that?!?).

Our oldest was named James Arthur. Arthur was my grandfather's name and we wanted another to go with it, hence James after my husband's grandfather. He was almost named Clifford Patrick after our fathers. Our son likes the name Cliff and wishes that that had been his name. We told him he could name his son that.

Our daughter's name, Carol Anne, just came to my husband out of the blue while driving home one afternoon. He came in and asked me how I liked it. I did and we never thought of another name for her. If she had been a boy, she probably would have been Clifford Patrick.

Not too long ago I posted on a thread where someone was having a poll to name their child. Jesse Alice is a name that I've like since I was a child. I had a friend with that name. I sometimes wish now that I had remembered it when our daughter was born. But I do like the name we gave her too. Carol is not a real common name at the moment.

Maybe we should have had four children instead of two. :D

My oldest is Emma Elizabeth -- To tell you the truth I started liking Emma when the show Kate and Allie was on. She was one of the daughters (can't remember though if it was the character's name or her actual name). Elizabeth was my maternal grandmother's middle name.

Ryan Steven -- the only boy's name DH and I could agree on that sounded good with our last name!! Steven is DH's name.

Madelyn Jean (Maddie) -- I started liking Madelyn when I was pregnant with Ryan, DH did not like it then. It took 3 years (their age difference) of casually mentioning it for him to come around! LOL!! Jean is my paternal grandmother's first name.

For first DS it was easy. We wanted to name him for his uncle. His uncle's name was Eric Bryce so he became Eric Christopher.

For 2nd DS it wasn't that easy. We still wanted to name him for his uncle, but since Eric was taken, we took the Bryce, but since both of us didn't like Bryce for a first name we still needed a first name to go with Bryce.

One day we were watching WWF on TV and we were joking how we should just name the 2nd baby with wrestler's names - you know like Triple H, the Rock, etc. We were beyond hysterical at this time until a couple of wrestlers showed up on TV and we just looked at each other and said... AHA! There's the name!

So... 2nd DS became Christian Bryce. Everyone thinks we picked Christian cause it's a good christian name, solid religious name.... little did they know! :teeth:

Roman Joseph- MIL's maiden name is Romangoli, Hubby's name is Joseph

Bryce David- Hubby loved the name Bryce, David is my step-father

We had a hard time picking names. It was twins so we had to agree on 2 boy and 2 girl names at one time. One thing I don't like is that Bryce became very popular the year my boys were born and Roman seems to be moving on up there too.

We have two girls - Cheyenne and Savannah.

Well, DH suggested Cheyenne's name long before I was ever pregnant. The boy name we had picked out initially was Kyle, but we happened to be on vacation in Wyoming when "trying" for our child, and we joked that if I became pregnant that month we should pick out a boy's name that would fit Wyoming the same way Cheyenne does. We changed our boy choice to Cody...and sure enough, I was pregnant! Now everyone thinks we picked the name because she was conceived in Wyoming, but the name came first! She is Cheyenne Victoria - I wanted a more traditional middle name, and it is a variation on her dad's name.

A friend's wife could not remember our new baby's unusual first name, and accidentally called her "Savannah". DH and I both had the same reaction - that would be a great name too! So we have a city theme going on, but not really by choice. Well, partially. The boy name we had picked out for Savannah was Austin, so I guess the geographical theme was always in the back of our minds. She is Savannah Marie - a traditional middle name used in both of our families. DH was bummed a few months later, when it suddenly dawned on him that he would've preferred Savannah Rose. Oh well.
