What if your child gets sick in WDW?

We are in WDW right now. My 5yo got super tired after dinner, then felt very hot not long thereafter, and was complaining of a headache and ear pain. It sounds like she's getting an ear infection to me.

I have Tylenol to give her but what do I do if she worsens tomorrow?

In all my trips to WDW I never had to treat a sick child with more than an OTC medication. Where do you take your kids if they get sick?

Thanks for the input.

A friend of mine had the front desk at her WDW Resort call a doctor in to their hotel room. I think it was expensive (insurance covered part though), but it was nice to not have to drag the child around...

The other option is to research a local "Minute Clinic" - many pharmacies have one - I'm sure the concierge or front desk could help, or at least call a cab.

Good luck!

Yes, they'll send a doctor to your room, or there is a clinic you can go to that takes insurance. It's over by the Crossroads. If you call them, they can provide transportation if you don't have your own. I believe transportation is only from the parks, though. DH went for stitches once.

Unfortunately I have one that has health issues so we've dealt with sickness at WDW. The first time he complained of his ears hurting and a head-ache -- we were in the parks so we went to first aide and a nurse checked his temp and ears -- as suspected he had an ear infection. She contacted a Dr. and they called in a prescription that was delivered to our resort-- that was about 8 years ago so I don't know if that's still an option. The next visit ds had a an asthma flare up -- again in the parks - they offered to have ds and I taken to the hospital so that dh could stay in the parks w/ the other kids -- but our oldest was old enough to keep the two middles in the park so we just had them drive us back to our hotel so we could get our vehicle and we drove.

There are urgent care's that will provide transportation to and fro, free of charge. Just call the front desk and ask. We left once from Hollywood Studios. Ask for a booster. Also a fan of the little clinics, say at Walgreens. Probably less of a wait.

I will also share that once on vacation (Saturday, after hours), my pediatrician (at home) submitted a RX to the local CVS for pick-up...saving us a trip to the ER, for an ear infection (urgent cares closed). It was classic onset, and no other real syptoms...I was very, very thankful for that one.

Finally...the new thinking these days with ear infections is to let them run their course, that often they will resolve as quickly with antibiotics as without. I'm more in the antibiotics camp, but a chat with your pediatrician tomorrow morning might be a good idea, and a good starting point.

Go like you're going to downtown Disney, go straight through the downtown Disney hotels to the main intersection and turn right. There is an urgent care right there.

Our daughter got sick in March right when we arrived at WDW. We took her to an urgent care in the area. It was quite an experience and took a long time (it was the 2nd clinic we tried - the other one had a much longer wait). If I had known we could have had a doctor come to the room, I would have done that.

Call the front desk, as you would do in any hotel. They are well equipped to give you phone numbers of local clinics, call an ambulance for you if necessary, and bring housekeeping items you might need.

Call her doctor at home. If she has a history of ear infections, I am sure that he will not only call her something in, but also know what is most likely to work well for her. Have the number of a pharmacy that will deliver to your resort in hand when you call. Easy and safer and much less expensive.

Personally, I would get the number of a nearby pharmacy and then, call my pediatrician. She wouldn't have an issue with calling something in for me. We've dad to do it multiple times while out of state.

Centra Care is close to DTD hotels.
