What if you cancel after the 45 day mark?

I know that you have to be paid prior to 45 days before the vacation. BUT what if you cancel the vacation after that date? What happens then? How much money do you lose and does it depend on how close you are?

If you completely cancel your vacation package within 44 days of arrival you forfeit $200 and the travel insurance cost (if you opted for it.) Starting next year if you completely cancel within one day of arrival you forfeit the entire amount!

If you re-book your vacation package for a future date, it's likely that you won't forfeit the $200. You will, however, lose any discounts that might be part of your current package.

Room only reservations have a much more liberal cancellation policy in that you can completely cancel up to 6 days in advance of arrival and still get all your monies refunded.

So you can cancel 1 day before your arrival date and only lose 200????

Thanks for the information!

It sounds like starting next year if you cancel 1 day before arrival, you lose it all according to the pp.

Yes, packages booked for 2014 you forfeit the full amount of the package if canceled one day before through arrival. Here's a thread from immediately after the 2014 packages became available. One poster quoted the cancellation policy for packages, then in the next post for room only reservations:

So if you are not flying there is no point in travel insurance?

All travel insurances are different and I'm not entirely familiar with Disney's, but typically, travel insurance will cover you if something happens during your trip by reimbursing you the unused portion. If you arrive and on day 2 of you 7 day trip, you have a medical emergency or need to go home for an emergency, under most travel insurances you can make a claim and get most of your package money back. I believe it also covers weather related emergencies, as many people recommend it if you're traveling during hurricane season.

Even if you are flying, travel insurance seems to cover very little other than medical emergency or family death...trust me. I had to cancel our flight last year the day before we were to fly out for our honeymoon (to WDW) due to an error the bank made and was told that was not covered by trip insurance...talk about a bad deal!!
