What if xtra driver does not have CC???

While researching rental minivans for my upcoming texas trip...it dawned on me....what happens if the extra driver does not have a credit card? They all say "additional driver must have credit card"...I'm assuming they're going to put a "hold" on X $$ on the card?

When we get to texas, there will more than likely be times when my aunt will drive, as we do not know our way around El Paso..BUt she doesnt have a CC????

I'm not sure what would happen if you were in an accident, and the driver wasn't listed?? If she has car insurance (which she does!) would she be covered?

Do not let an unauthorized driver take the wheel, do not violate any part of the rental agreement including geographical restrictions.

Otherwise any coverages you did purchase could be void and even the credit card coverages you might have may not cover you in case of accident or whatever.

You can ask to have y our aunt as an extra driver and withdraw that request only after they agent asks for her credit card.

Let your aunt be a back seat driver and slow down wherever you feel it is needed.

Hmmmm, I never noticed that!
When we rented from Avis this weekend, the agent said that when I initialed and signed, my husband would be able to drive too. I didn't read the contract (other than making sure it said "no insurance and pre-paid gas). I wonder if he said that because I was signing to be responsible on my card if hubby had an accident. I'll ask about that next time. I know there was no additional charge or anything because we were pre-paid through Priceline.

I was the second driver on a National reservation in April. They did ask for my drivers license and I did have to sign the rental agreement but they did not ask for a credit card.

It's for insurance purposes. They won't allow another driver without a valid credit card, unless it's your spouse. Other relatives - parents, inlaws, children, cousins or aunts, must have a valid credit card to be allowed driving privileges.
